Is this a new feature... I had heard that there were some people complaining that there was no Japanese content - very non-PC given that the conference was in Tokyo..

Interpretation has been arranged for the past month....but of course, Adam, the guy who arranged it has been off in Korea getting married in the interim. :?

NOBODY has bothered to send us any papers, notes, slides, or a full Conference Programmeso the prep for the interpretation is gonna be, let's say, very "psychic".

I've heard some snide remarks saying that this conference is more like, "a party with few people doing stand-up comedy."

No interpretation

Guess what?
No interpretation has been reconfirmed as of today (Tuesday, July 1)...so I guess it will done a strictly ad hoc basis.

Other news...

Adam seems to be remiss in answering repeated email from my wife, Masami Ochi, about interpreting at the event...he orginally asked her a month or so ago.

Let's give credit where credit is due. My ex-wife, Japanese pro wrestler Cutie Patootie also lobbed in a few phone calls.

Went to the conference on Saturday and it was great. Met some really nice people - including of course some FG's.. great to catch up with Taro yet again and to meet Katakori and gkanai..

I looked for Taro and Katakori at the end but you had disappeared.. I ended up at dinner with a few people from the conference and then back to the nijikai.

Taro and Katakori were at the nijikai and were sitting in front of the female owner of a famous butt on the FG.

We were there from 8:30 til 9:30-ish. I keep old fart jiji-hours so we left early since I needed to go surf-kayaking Sunday at 5am Hiratsuka point, Shonan.

For all the other FGs out there wondering what the hell we are talking about...

Thanks for the props and links everyone! We were all really happy with the turnout.

I had no idea that I was meeting some FGers. You should've introduced yourself with your FG usernames :)

Another perspective...

Here's another perspective...
Mobloggers Descend on Tokyo for First International Conference
J@pan Inc Magazine / Issue No. 234Wednesday, July 9, 2003 / Tokyo

..Mobloggers from all over the world arrived at Super Deluxe near Roppongi Hills last Saturday for the first International Moblogging Conference...

.... Adam Greenfield, coordinator of the conference, told the crowd that "family is the killer app of moblogging," and indeed, many of the moblogging sites up and running now feature photos of family, friends, pets and, for some reason, alcoholic beverages. Moblogging is still something being done almost exclusively by early adopters, and Justin Hall, creator of links.com, mentioned that "a disproportionate number of moblogs are made by expatriates in Tokyo." It's a fun, if expensive, hobby, but will it pose a threat to mainstream publishing? Many at the conference thought so, but until the technology becomes more accessible to those of us who are not early adopters, it will remain a publishing outlet for technophiles with plenty of pocket change.

Sample moblogging sites:
