[floatr]Image[/floatr]Asahi: Hatoyama fights post office tower plan
Internal affairs minister Kunio Hatoyama has dealt another blow to Japan Post's plans to stabilize its operations through real estate deals by opposing the redevelopment of the historic Tokyo Central Post Office building. Japan Post canceled its contract to sell Kanpo no Yado accommodation and recreation facilities to Orix Real Estate Corp. in February following Hatoyama's objection. I have lived in buildings much older than the one in question here. (correct me if I ma wrong) Wasn't this building built in the 1920's or 30's? Back home this is thought to be modern and not worth costly government protection. I spent most of my life in a building built in 1698, it is still there and is not considered to be a historical building.

I wonder who benefits form the protection of this place.
