J-Girl Clock "Bijin Tokei"

Postby omae mona » Tue Mar 10, 2009 1:09 pm

If you liked the Uniqlock, then you'll probably like this one too!

Bijin-Tokei

This firm apparently took 1440 pictures of girls holding up the time scribbled on a chalkboard. You get a new girl once per minute (I checked and indeed there are 1440 minutes in a day).

Image

This has inspired me to develop a more advanced version that updates once per second.

Tip of the hat to the asiajin blog for finding this.

Piece of crap. I got a 503 error.
Wouldn't it be faster to just look at the clock indicator on the lower right of your screen?

no it's not. well, sort of. it hasn't compensated for daylight savings that just started, but it's currently reading 7:40, which is the time in new york without DST.

is this artistic or just bad setup to have the camera reflected on the board?

Aha. I didn't even think to click on the English one til it was mentioned as being off, and then I thought it was WAAAYYYYYY off - WTF?!?!? It's not 20:45...

Gotta agree about the girls - some cuties, some not so much. And I've gotten the 503 a couple of times.

Ahhh, come on Dave, what's wrong with 12:38 on Sunday. On the second thought, don't take it, leave it to me.....

This is absolutely true. However, since last weekend, the North American east coast is mostly on Eastern Daylight Time. The only place in the world currently observing Eastern Standard Time is Coral Harbour, Nunavut Territory, Canada where it is currently minus 45 degrees Fahrenheit (about -43 C).
As of the 2006 census the population was 769, an increase of 8.0% from the 2001 census.[3] Coral Harbour is the only Nunavut community that does not observe Daylight Saving Time, remaining on Eastern Standard Time year-round.

I think we should just agree that the English version is displaying Central Daylight Time, currently observed by such illustrious cities as Milwaukee and Des Moines, and get back to discussing the cute girls :-)

Yeah...ok...it says that where? Oh, that's right, it's broken again...so I can't look.

What we need it a separate listing of hot girls for every time zone, perhaps related somehow to the time zone they're in. 1440 x 24 times zones = a heck of a lot of cute girls.

it doesn't have to say it. it's logically obvious. true, it's america-biased to base the english version on eastern standard time, but if you ask any japanese person, the entire english speaking world revolves around new york.

i'm sure the creators of the website will be happy to hear that you're going to be donating your time, photography and programming skills to improve upon their website.

i love it when people complain about free websites and what they 'need' them to have.

That's just so if the website decides to include "my idea of what it needs", I can sue their asses off. Beats working.

Cyka, first of all, not only does the entire English-speaking world not revolve around New York, neither does all of the US. On the continental US alone there are 4 seperate time zones, and once Alaska and Hawaii are included, America has 6 times zones (even more if we include Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and Guam). So while you might argue that there is a New York-bias (or Boston-bias or even Toronto-bias), that's is defintiely NOT the same as there being an America-bias.

Second, as has been pointed out, due to the observance of daylight savings time (which now lasts for roughly 2/3 of the year in the US) the clock is not now set to New York time. So I guess there's a Chicago-bias or a Winnipeg-bias or a Flin Flon-bias or a Philadelphia (Mississippi)-bias ;)

i never said that i believe the entire english speaking world revolves around new york. nor do i think that. (it revolves around london, obviously! :D ) however i believe most, or at least many, japanese associate english speaking world with new york. and given that this site was created by japanese, it's pretty logical that they had new york in mind when setting the time zone for the english site. which is now skurred by the daylight savings time.

and thank you, i know there are more than 1 time zone in america.

We (the gringos) speak American with regional dilalects, for example, I used to be well-versed in Zuma, in which every other sentence must be a tirade against the Vals.

Wow! It's already been said, but I've never heard any Japanese person say the English world revolves around New York. In fact, I think most of them would say 'England." But what do I know after having been married for 20+ years to a Japanese woman and being over here for nearly that long. When I see "English" on a web page, I assume it is simply in English and not that the time zone is something other than what the main page is in.

And...it wasn't a "complaint," merely a suggestion. And yes, I understand the work required. I work in the IT field. And as most folks who work in IT know, the customer is never happy. It's never fast enough, good enough, or has all the features that everyone wants. There are banks that would throw millions of dollars to gain a millisecond of response time if it could be achieved so they could process their transactions faster (i.e. ahead of the other banks).

/end rant

The site, when it works, is cool. But, like I said, you can never have enough beautiful women. Is that such a wrong statement?

I'd like to spend a lot of time, effort, and pelvic thrusts to prove the above statement incorrect.

I thought the way these online clocks works is they read your PC's local time so it doesn't really matter what time zone you are at. I guess that was not the case after reading the statements above.
