"Assassination Of Ichiro" T-Shirts

Postby Mulboyne » Sat Mar 14, 2009 11:31 pm

Image

[floatr]Image[/floatr]A T-shirt depicting the "assassination of Ichiro" is on sale in Korea as competition heats up in the World Baseball Classic. The image intentionally references the 1909 assassination of Hirobumi Ito, then Resident-General of Korea, by An Jung-geun, featuring Ichiro as Ito and pitcher Bong Jung-keun as "patriot" An (the two Koreans share the same given name). The design is lifted directly from the cover of a well-known biography of An (right). Bong's South Korean team, the LG Twins, got permission to parody the illustration and put 330 shirts on sale which were all snapped up the same day. This year is the 100th anniversary of the assassination so the event has been recalled on a number of occasions in the Korean media in relation to the rivalry between the two nations. An is said to have shot Ito three times and Korean netizens have compared this with the three times "patriot" Bong held Ichiro hitless in their match-up. Korean supporters have not forgiven Ichiro for his comment at the last World Baseball Classic that he wanted to hand the Korean team a defeat which they would remember for thirty years. Hirobumi Ito is also an unpopular figure because he is regarded as one of the architects of Japan's imperialist ambitions.

Edit: There's a ZakZak report here (Japanese)

Poor form.
Someone should inform these SK guys that it's only a ball game.
Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

Itai news has a larger image of the T-shirt which describes "Dr. Bong" as a specialist in treating "Ibuchiryo" which is a pun on Ichiro's name, linking him with a mouth disease.

Sounds like the name of an advice column in High Times.
"Dear Dr. Bong,
420 to thee. Been having problems with debris getting stuck at the bottom of my...ahem...water pipe. A friend told me that regular industrial bleach will remove the residues, but I'm like, man, I don't want that bleach vibe in my smoke, y'know. I mean, I'm kinda 'God makes it, I smoke it, that settles it.', so it's all about the green bud-life nature. Any advice would be great. No stems, man...no stems!"

The rabid Ichiro-hatin' gooks at the WBC will be easy to spot.

Here's one of their top role models:

Then there are the football chants:

Two World Wars, One World Cup is a football song sung by supporters of the English National Team. It is especially directed at the German fans, making reference to the world wars that were fought in the 20th century, and how England defeated West Germany to win the 1966 FIFA World Cup. The chant refers to the fact that Germany have never beaten England in a FIFA World CupFinal.[1]

It is considered particularly inflammatory and in 2006 the Government of the UK cautioned fans travelling to Germany for the World Cup to refrain from taunting the locals with this tune.[2]

[YT]_1M730cYkic&translated=1[/YT]

Ten German Bombers was originally a song sung by English school children during World War II. It uses the same tune as 'She'll Be Coming 'Round The Mountain' though its verse and chorus follow the format of the song 'Ten Green Bottles':

There were ten German bombers in the air,
There were ten German bombers in the air,
There were ten German bombers, Ten German bombers,
There were ten German bombers in the air,
And the RAF from England shot one down,
And the RAF from England shot one down,
And the RAF from England, The RAF from England,
And the RAF from England shot one down,
These verses are then repeated with one more bomber being shot down, until there are none left. (In the penutlimate verses it is changed to "There was" and "shot it down") The final verses of the song are:

There were no German bombers in the air,
There were no German bombers in the air,
There were no German bombers, No German bombers,
There were no German bombers in the air,
His [Brendan Behan's] last words were to several nuns standing over his bed, "God bless you, may your sons all be bishops."

Japan can always piss of all the Chons by flying the Ol' Hinomaru flag in the outfield. Of course, all of this bickering becomes irrelevant when Japan and Korea get eliminated in the Pool1 round... nida.

I hate the kind of petty, disrespectful rivalry that exists in many sports today. When I used to row for crew in college we had a match against California State University Long Beach, and a few supporters and one crew-member wore T-shirts that read "Beat the Beach". When our coach found out, the entire team was disciplined and we had to apologize to CSULB on behalf of both our team AND our supporters who wore the disrespectful shirts! Talk about a gentleman's sport, LOL. I wouldn't suggest anything that extreme, but Ichiro probably should have never made his stupid comment, and each team should at least attempt to discourage their fans from this type of behavior, IMO. Of course, some of you rowdy football fans prone to spontaneous rioting may have a different opinion. :p

4 parts 91% Isopropyl alcohol, 1 part wintergreen alcohol and a half cup of kosher salt does wonders to clear and clean a ....water pipe. Don't even have to buy "pipe cleaner" solutions.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.
