[quote="nottu"]Debito would be a stupid liberal politico back in the US if he never left NY. He displays the same pathetic, childish behavior –]

To a degree you make a compelling point. In the US he would be seen as a far-left liberal loon. Anyone that admires and respects Michael Moore at the highest level does have a bit of credible issues. He does do some good things on one hand, has done quite a lot to turn on the light and to bring inequality of how many FG's are treated in Japan. But on the other hand, he can be whiny about many issues that are really insignificant and really don't do anything to help the plight of Non-Japanese. Maybe there might be different ways to tackle these problems, but so far, no one has offered any real vile solutions. If you think that FG's are treated the same as the Japanese and therefore, we have to suck it up is NOT the answer either. Debito, though annoying he can be at times, is probably the best crusader we have for the moment.

Aye and tis a worthy job for him. Leaves me free to pursue wine, women and song, while knowing the job is being diligently handled.

And then there are the grains of sugar whom upon entering the cup of tea do their best to become tea. Tea expects to stay pure and unadulterated, and the good grains of sugar don't want a storm in their teacup so pretend to be tea. But every now and again comes along a grain of sugar who tries to be sweet. The other pseudo tea/sugar grains attack him vigorously and try to dilute him away. All this before tea has even noticed. Tea now has a foreign body that will attack itself to protect tea. Lucky tea.

But the sugar decided on its own to be in the tea, now didn't it? And since the sugar is in tea's house, the sugar needs to live by tea's rules. Indeed, if a little bit of tea came over to live in the sugar bowl, sugar would expect tea to play nice. Not necessarily to pretend to be sugar, but at least make an effort to get along.

Some of the sugar living in the tea is quite happy there, and likes tea as it is, and gets along quite well with the tea surrounding it. This does not mean the sugar is pretending to be tea.

Now along comes a grain of sugar who has gone to the trouble of legally making itself "tea". But it is still sugar, and is truly unable to "become" tea. This is immensely frustrating to this little grain of sugar, but rather than learning and trying to get along in the new home it has chosen, sugar/tea starts insisting that it knows what is best and says tea must change to become like sugar. This concerns some of the other grains of sugar, because there are reasons they left the sugar bowl for the tea.

Now, there are other grains of sugar that only like being with other grains of sugar, and perhaps occasionally tea particles of the opposite sex. They often don't know exactly why they are in tea, and they don't particularly care about tea one way or the other, and don't see any real need to get to know tea or talk to tea. Everything they know about tea is what they learn from other bits of sugar. Along comes sugar/tea to tell them what tea is really like. And these little bits of sugar like what sugar/tea tells them, because it makes them feel superior and reinforces their image that tea is bad. And they tell sugar/tea that he is great, and sugar/tea, being naturally insecure, likes the adulation. It likes it a lot. So sugar/tea tells more and more, until finally sugar/tea is just making things up, because sugar/tea has learned that this is what the discontented grains of sugar want.

This bothers some of the other grains of sugar. Tea may not be perfect, but lying about tea is too much. So they challenge sugar/tea. This makes suagr/tea angry, because if more people realize sugar/tea is a liar, they will stop liking sugar/tea, and sugar/tea will become lonely. Sugar/tea has put a lot of energy into getting people to believe certain things about tea, after all. And so sugar/tea fights back, and the adoring but clueless little grains of sugar that hang on sugar/tea's every word fight back too, because they can't accept that maybe they've been lied to.

And most of the tea really doesn't care one way or the other.

I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.

The cops aren't always out to get us...

They found Greji's lost "friend"!

The Yomiuri reports that Ibaraki Prefecture police announced 2008 figures on reported incidents of lost and found items. The results for cash? 600 million yen reported lost, 200 million yen reported found.

In addition to cash, items reported found included a chameleon, a goat, and 33 chickens (the chameleon and goat were either returned or given to new owners, but the chickens had to be put down).
