Terminator 3 - OMFG!

Postby Caustic Saint » Thu Jul 03, 2003 7:46 am

I read online that it's opening in Japan on July 2nd, just like here in the US, but just in case, I won't give away anything spoilerish.

I saw it today and was totally blown away. It goes pretty much full-on from the opening to the ending, 109 minutes later. Great action, wonderful plot twists and no Matrix-esque over the top CGI. Very little (comparatively) CGI in fact. Much of the action is of the old-school "blow stuff up and trash real cars" variety.

All-in-all a very satisfying movie, though some purists and Cameron diehards may not like the direction Mostow takes the franchise. I love the first two movies, but this one delivered all I could want and more.

The previews look disappointing. Is it really that good?

It really is. Unlike Reloaded, they didn't give away all the best parts in the trailers. There are a lot of little details that touch on the first two movies which I wasn't really expecting but fit in perfectly. It's more action-oriented than T2 was, but IMO the plot was fantastic. Fully explains how things can go on past T2. And by not giving away any key twists in the trailers, you get to see it all unfold for you as something new. (Watching Reloaded was like following along with a checklist for all the good scenese they gave away in the trailers.) T3 has plenty of "holy crap!" action moments that you didn't see in the trailers.

And yes, I'm harping on Reloaded to make my point here. T3 will easily be the best sequel of the summer. That's not becuase it's the best of a bunch of crap sequels, but because it's just that good.

Is this the last of the Terminator series, or is it looking like they're gonna continue this for years to come?

not if Arnie's political ambitions have anything to say about it.

The critics liked it... more plot, more character development, and just as much blam as the first 2.

Schwarzenegger stops in Japan on his way to Iraq
Wednesday, July 02, 2003 - 11:39:19 AM PST
TOKYO (AP) - Arnold Schwarzenegger, in Japan to promote the latest "Terminator" movie, played another increasingly familiar role Wednesday - Mr. Coy

While saying he is only interested in promoting his movie, Schwarzenegger has done little to calm the storm of speculation over his intentions to seek political office.

At a recent taping of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," the late-night talk-show host introduced him to the television audience as "the next governor from the great state of California."

I saw this one tonight and I liked it. As CS said, action from the get-go! Pulls you right in and doesn't let go. Excellent ending leaves room for a future franchise. CGI is very good, better than T2 and nowhere near as much as M2.

OK, I'm sold on it. Will definitely check it out. Frankly I was worried that the use of a female Terminator would make it less interesting.

Yeah, I'd say she's a bit more menacing than Robert Patrick was as the T-1000, but not by much. She tended to look meaner and he came off as very focused.

We were talking about how they need to do a sequel. This sequel will explain how some puny humans manage to lead a resistance. This after suffering a deadly world wide nuclear attack that killed 2/3 of the worlds population, they are outnumbered by an unlimited supply of terminator androids, each one impossible to kill, and yet Conner leads the humans to victory - yea right.

but it was a great movie. Arnold is BACCK!

he was not born in the US.. is he still allowed to run for office? Or perhaps his connections to the Kennedy's are conducive to his political aspirations.

Sorry to take the thread off on a tangent..

I believe that as a naturalized citizen, he can run for any office but President. Unfortunately, there is no added intelligence test for candidates (witness: Jesse Ventura, Governor of Minnesota).

Or Davis, Governor of the Great State of California... "duh, I'll sign on the dotted-line for high-priced power contracts".

I think the recall effort is a waste of time, but it couldn't happen to a better guy. ;)

Hey, Davis is a good governor! He's just the victim of the vast right wing conspiracy (and my tongue is not really planted in the side of my cheek when I say that). The energy crisis was all Enron's fault, didn't you know?

Notice I didn't say that he was to blame for the power crisis... that was clearly market manipulation. However, he DID put California in hawk by signing high-priced longterm contracts (which only makes sense if you are stupid or in cahoots with the power industry)... the entire point of that deregulation debacle was to lower prices longterm through competition... and then he goes and signs longterm agreements?

Exactly. I pointed out elsewhere that A.S. could not be President, but if dead people can be on the list, we can at least imagine the possibilities if Ahnold were POTUS. Man, what a nightmare that would be. We all would be required by law to eat salad three meals a day and get to the gym three days a week, or face jail time. 8O
