It's kind of like looking for a captian after the ship hit the iceberg. Not really a good analogy but close enough to get the point across. I kind of goes back to the whole, "people aren't angry" article, if people were angry I think they would be demanding serious change like they did in the States. Instead, they imitate Obama with my students loving the whole "Yes We Can" craze. Also, on the whole Obama craze in Japan, I saw a poster on the Tokaido Line JR in Aichi of a Japanese man with black face paint on imitating Obama with the caption underneath saying, Yes We Can enjoy more Gamagori, which I think is some town in Aichi, that has boat racing. And according to the Gamagori Tourism website, boat racing only exists in Japan. I wish I had a picture of that poster.
I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.

A captain-less ship of sheep.
One is tempted to define man as a rational animal who always loses his temper when he is called upon to act in accordance with the dictates of reason. - Oscar Wilde

Hows this for an analogy?: It's like looking for a king when all you got are pawns.

Awful. Doesn't capture the nature of the problem. Not to mention this situation cannot actually occur in a game of chess.

Clearly, but let me train to explain the meaning behind it and see if it still sucks. What I was going for was the the average educated Japanese man, be it an accountant, lawyer, bureaucrat, or doctor, or some other white-collar job doesn't really do alot of thinking-outside-the-box shall we say, its kind of difficult to look for leadership when the only kinds of people that Japan seems to generate are pencil-pushers. It would be like trying to play chess but the only pieces you have are pawns. But then you would just play checkers, but thats besides the point.

Leadership is not thinking out of the box... It's more like creating the box for the others to think inside.

(just helping the thread to sink a little deeper into a puddle of meaningless metaphore and alcohol fueled brainfarts)

Hey, either lead, or get out of me way!
