DPA: Six injured in Tokyo when building crane falls onto street
Six people were injured Tuesday in Tokyo's Kojimachi business district after a large construction crane fell onto the street, Japanese media reports said. A 62-year-old woman suffered a cardiac arrest after the 28-metre crane operating at a construction site fell over onto the street. Another passerby was injured but still conscious, Jiji Press quoted the Tokyo Metropolitan Fire Department saying. The 38-year-old crane operator suffered a back injury, and three workers were rescued out of a truck. The crane was lifting a 6-ton cylinder used to pour concrete for a building foundation when it fell, blocking three lanes of traffic.

I wonder if this is another work of a dodgy construction company cutting corners to save an extra cash. We will soon find out which regulations they violated.

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Or maybe the guy who's sole job it is to apologize to people who walk by the site was off duty.

Or it could be connected to frozen Chinese gyoza in some way.

Japanese cranes are apparently quite good for textile work but you have to question their suitability for construction jobs.

A less serious incident in Kawasaki. No-one hurt and minor damage.

These crappy tinkertoys topple with great regularity here as well. Everybody then screams for new/revised laws, but I think they are just poorly designed and intrinsically dangerous.

Just walking close to one gives you the feeling that it's only staying upright by chance or inertia.

Actually I heard that the one in Tokyo fell because it was trying to lift a really heavy pipe but the base of the crane was too far away from the pipe. So it was user-error not poor construction.
I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.

Also a good example why you should cover the bitumen with a layer of gravel if you have a flat roof.
