Rental cars in tokyo?

Postby 40 Fl. oz. » Fri Jul 04, 2003 9:05 am

Looking for a place to rent a car in Tokyo. Need a decent car to make a little one day road trip with.

How much do they charge?

What documents will I need? (Passport, International drivers license, etc)

What are the terms usually?

Are you travelling in Tokyo? Take a taxi or (better) take the subway. Traffic sucks in Tokyo.

What we've done in the past is get out of tokyo by train and rent a car to drive around the target area.. getting into and out of Tokyo, especially on weekends/holidays is a nightmare!! Can add 4-5 hours onto your trip. Most rental companies have branches near train stations and they usually come to meet you at the station and then drop you off after you deliver the car.

Thanks for the links.

Can someone provide a link showing where their rental shops are located?

Keep the suggestions coming. I'd like to shop around for the most convenient locations and best prices.

Also, are there any websites I can visit to learn what road signs mean what, and how their traffic laws differ from Americas?

THANKS!
