CNET: Sushezi shoots out tubes of sushi
I can't tell if I like this idea or not. I suppose since it involves the making of sushi, I'll just have to give it a thumbs up. However, I don't think it's quite sushi-sushi...Looks aside, Sushezi operation is pretty simple. Place your goodies inside the hinged case, clasp it shut and push the plunger. I don't know if I would ever use this to make sushi, but that wouldn't stop me from using it. For example, it looks to me like it would be able to make some sort of stuffed mashed potato creation rather easily...more...

The description on one website says: "Perfect Sushi Tube makes it easy to create restaurant quality sushi at home! Three simple steps simply stuff with rice, choose filling and extrude."

Cool device! It looks like it would be a great help for making maki rolls (which I love) with genmai (brown) rice, which is healthier, tastier, but a lot less sticky then white (sticky) rice.

Making maki rolls with genmai is hard, and you need to put a lot more liquid (water and/or vinegar) into the rice to prevent the rolls from falling apart, than you would with sticky rice. Even then, while making maki rolls, there is a tendency with genmai rice to fall out the ends when you roll and squeeze it in the bamboo mat. It looks like this device might prevent that, so that more force can be applied in the squeezing, and less liquid would be needed to add to the genmai rice.

I hope that they will sell it or something similar in Tokyo.
