I've got a bad tooth that I suspect will need attending to in the near future. Can anyone recommend a good English speaking dentist in Tokyo?

One that'll be covered by National Health Insurance. I still find it hard to believe that the insurance covers teeth. Back home (where most public health care is quite cheap) dentists are rolling in money, and if you can't pay them it's either live with the problem or gift yourself as a plaything for dental students.

Ohhhh, I feel your pain.

Ya got two routes: CHEAP or EASY

Cheap: Suzuki Clinic in Suitengumae...he's a US trained dentist multiple REAL degrees, not just a very marginal Japanese dental education. Remind me by PM tonight for his address and phone.

Easy: Harajuku Nantoka Clinic... Fast, private and plush...almost as good as a fashion massage. No national health so most jobs take only 1 or 2 visits (National Health dentists require 3-5 vistits so they can make money). Once again, remind me by PM tonight for the address and phone.

You pay for what ya get.
I'd rather spend 10-20,000 yen and get it done in a posh visit or two ... than get jacked around for weeks like the average Japanese dum-dum dentist office in a slum-block will do to you.

I know of a good dentist near Tokyo station who has some English speaking ability, US experience, and has a very nice office with modern, clean equipment. You can also PM me if you want the address.

The Dentist at the Tokyo Medical and Surgical Clinic is supposed to be quite good - Dr Ward. He is american I think.

The Tokyo Medical & Surgical Clinic
32 Mori Bldg., 2F
3-4-30 Shiba Koen, Minato-ku, Tokyo
Tel: 03-3436-3028
Real Emergencies: 03-3432-6134 (not for making appointments)

Located in Roppongi directly across from the front entrance
to Tokyo Tower. The closest subway station is Kamiyacho on the Hibiya
line, a ten minute walk.

I know this may not be practical, but if you are planning a holiday to Thailand, then you should wait until you go, if possible. Excellent dentists here in the Land of Smiles. In Chiang Mai, a cleaning goes for about 350 baht (8$ US) a filling for 10 to 12 US, and some serious root canal work or whatever for about fifty bucks. Bangkok prices are a bit higher. Very professional staff, first-class equipment, and walk-in service. I get my teeth cleaned every few months. Dental clinics everywhere, and Thais have great teeth in general, hence all of the inane smiling. Plus cheap, professional plastic-surgery here if you need some other "augmentation". And competent eye-surgery to do away with those contacts.

That's all

Cheap, US trained, well-skilled as evaluated my dentist in Anerica, EngRish speaking:
Nao Shika Clinic in Kayabacho ...he's got multiple REAL US degrees, not just a very marginal Japanese dental education.

Nao Shika (Nao dentist)
Dr. Suzuki
Kayabacho Station,
Hibiya or Tozai lines, (Tokyo Stock Exchange area)
03-3663-0649

Easy, hi-quality, marginally EngRish speaking, but does not take National Health Insurance:

Dental Design Clinic
D2 Place 2F
Kita Aoyama 3-7-10,
Tokyo 107-0061
east Harajuku off Rt 246

Well check this one out. I never knew dentistry could be considered pornographic. Click the box cover for a good look at her gums.
