AFAIK no country has yet succeeded in reversing a negative population growth rate "naturally", even countries like Germany that have gotten *very* serious about it. This doesn't mean that Japan can't do it but I don't see Japan suddenly becoming a leader in this area.

I agree that multiculturalism would be good to avoid. As mentioned in my post above, part of having more non-Japanese here would be finding ways to integrate them into Japanese society.

It's not a bad thing, but it is an inevitable thing that will happen, maybe not in the next 10 years visibly, but eventually it will and THAT is really not so bad. It can't be helped. The world as a whole is coming more and more together. Japan cannot be a "one nation" race (which actually isn't true) forever.

sea otter does get residency status

Postby Netherlander » Sun May 03, 2009 5:48 pm

Sea otter does get special residency status. I'm I correct to assume that many conservative Japanese people have no problem sending this young girl to an unfamiliar country, but think it is important to give residency status to a "swimming rat!"

Technically, they gave residency status to a "swimming weasel".
Obviously, this is an injustice calling for Super Debito's talents.

Right.
I misspell words all the time. However, a program called "spell-checker" conveniently underlines all errant words typed into any program, including this one. Without the aid of spell-checker, your writings could be dismissed as the ramblings of a sixth-grader. Or praised as the advanced writings of a fifth-grader. It really depends on the reader.
When the word "grammar" is misspelt, it is so ironic, it becomes humorous.

Good question, but many moons ago somehow someone sold J-folks on the concept and presto Eikaiwa was born.

That makes me ponder the question: If the knowledge being imparted (or perhaps "inflicted") on a student is wrong, is it really "teaching"?
