Whatever, they're private organizations, they can do what they want, westerners will take their wallets, stuffed full of touism money, elsewhere.

Crispy and I agree on this one. If that old lady was smart, she'd hire a kid in the community (or better yet, a JET student) to work the front desk during the World Cup, up the prices by 5000JPY per room, and retire to the Phillipines after the soccer is over.

Yes, I know, which is why I'd never be that lady with the ryokan.

This is probably why Japan needs gaijin to rescue it from its own economic mess, just as it needed foreign military occupation to wipe the scum from the top leadership positions 50 years ago.
