As an adopted person, I know that subconsciously, I was drawn to Japan in an effort to not mate with a chick who could be a sibling. However, I do want to meet my birth parents provided four conditions are fulfilled.
1) They are old.
2) They are rich.
3) Their tickers are in bad shape.
4) There's room for my name in the last will and testament.

I think the "opposites attract" rule applies to most of the human race, most of the time... that's why there's so much YBF/YCF floating around. (YCF is the female version).
I think that's mainly a subconcious effort not to mate with a relative.

From the time I was about 10 years old, I hung out with a bunch of other kids on the block. When one of the girls later developed a crush on a boy in the group, he remarked that he could "never get romantically involved with any of us, we're too much like sisters to him".

OTOH, we've all heard rumors about casual incest in Japan, up to and including mother/son stories. I wonder if it's a by-product of family bathing well into the teen years, left-overs of the primitive clan mentality, or whatever...

Or maybe it's just bullshit. I haven't seen any scientific studies on the occurance of incest in Japan relative to other countries/cultures. It wouldn't surprise me if the rumors were true though. I think places where this shit happens more often are that way probably not because there is a culture of acceptance of the act itself but because there is a culture of not telling anybody when your parents do something bad. Filial piety's a bitch. If I remember correctly from my college sociology class and assuming my prof wasn't full of shit, parent-child and brother-sister incest are cross culturally taboo except in the case of royalty. I guess it's good to be the king.

About ten years ago a Japanese friend of mine who was about 40 at the time was telling me and a group of guys we hung out with that he was starting to feel uncomfortable with the family baths how that his daughter was 13 and had tits and pubic hair. I said the easy answer to that was as soon as it feels unfomfortable to anyone in the family ... FUCKING STOP!!!
