Japanese wrestling legend Mitsuharu Misawa dies in the ring

Misawa, arguably Japan's greatest modern-day grappler, was tagging with highly-regarded youngster Go Shiozaki in the main event of a show in Hiroshima

They were taking on Akitoshi Saito & Bison Smith for their GHC World Tag Team titles when he failed to get up from a moderately dangerous looking back suplex move, a staple of NOAH matches.

Misawa would have taken the move thousands of times before but this time he stayed motionless.

A hushed crowd watched efforts to resuscitate him, before he was taken out of the ring, still unconscious, on a stretcher.

Misawa was declared dead in hospital at 10:10pm local time on Saturday.

His career began when, as a national high school wrestling champion, he turned pro in 1981.

His first taste of fame came three years later as the second incarnation of Tiger Mask. more...

And who says pro-resu is fake..? :hehe:

I was trying to imagine the guy and the killer move...
Yikes, he was Tiger Mask II and only 46 (worn) years old.

If I had seen this live, I would have thought it was all part of the show.

Too bad YouTube does not show the killer suplex mover that snuffed him.

Anyway/tonikaku, here's the way I'd rather remember him...

That's an exceptionally athletic and acrobatic bout you posted, Taro. That's a good way to remember Tiger mask.

PW: Wrestler's Family Receiving Death Threats after Misawa's Fatal Accident
The family of the wrestler who gave Japanese wrestling legend Mitsuharu Misawa the ill-fated suplex that cost him his life has been receiving death threats according to WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross. The wrestler himself has been on "suicide watch" since Misawa's passing as well. "Sources out of Japan tell me that the wrestler who was wrestling Misawa when the Japanese legend was accidentally killed in the ring has been essentially under a suicide watch not to mention that the parents of the wrestler have received many death threats," Ross wrote in his latest blog. "Misawa's birthday and the anniversary of him founding Pro Wrestling Noah were last week in what can only be considered cruel irony. This sad story just continues to keep getting sadder and the pro wrestling scene in Japan is perhaps at one of its lowest periods in years," he continued.

I especially love the fake CPR shit. I saw this on a local corner where a Taxi smashed a scooter. The keystone ambulance arrived within the fortnight and one of the 98lb 88yo assistants began a halfhearted approximation of CPR . I guess it just makes the crowd <feel> like someone is trying to save the poor sod. Anyway -- why didnt they bring out the AED and zap him a few times? At least that would add some action to the demise.
See you in PyonPyang!
