Ganguro Spreads Outside Japan

Postby kurohinge1 » Wed Jul 01, 2009 1:31 pm

Authorities in the UK have confirmed at least 2 cases of "Ganguro" . . .

Image

It is believed that the disease was spread from Japan (where it originated and until recently had been contained) via social networking sites, which have now been quarantined. The unmistakable symptoms, such as skin darkened by tanning products, garish make-up and bizarre hair, left authorities with no doubt that the victims had entered the terminal phase, called 'manba' or 'yamanba', forcing the Home Office to take the unprecedented step of detaining them in sealed containers for disposal, by controlled detonation, deep under the North Sea .

"It's the only way", said a Home Office official who refused to be named for fear of a backlash from Otaku, a political group that supports the non-lethal treatment of Ganguro. "If we don't take immediate action to stop the spread of the disease, we could have a pandemic by the weekend", he continued.

World Health Authorities applauded the UK's prompt action.

Otaku leaders were contacted but refused to comment, as they were in the middle of a particularly difficult level of a new video game - released only yesterday.

;)

You have to be careful with that. You throw peanuts and they may want to follow you home....

Anyone got a translation for this? I assume it was an attempt at a slur against my person but I always like to know what it is first. :ninja4:

I remember back in the day when I first came to Japan, I saw these Yamaba chicks and some of them had the platform shoes to go with that hideous style and didn't know what it was, now it's coming back like the plaque!
Gaaawd! I was very happy to see that style phase out!

At least the one on the left has an excuse for that - if you follow the linked "real story", you'll discover that it's name is "Declan" and the other image certainly suggests it's a "he".

I stumbled across this Gaijin Gyaru website today. It is full of stimulating posts about:

Buying Japanese clothes online
are any of you actually japanese??
and my favorite:
Shibuya Gal Sex technique and tip book!

From the Sex Technique thread:
The 5 page example book found in this months "Hime" Shibuya gal magazine talks about all kinds of subjects.

Page 1 talks about Love Hotels and all the neat things that come with them. By the way, these Love Hotels are awesome! For the price you can live like a king and queen for a night. I highly recommend them if you are ever in Tokyo.

Page2 talks about the different types of kissing. You can probably get a pretty good or funny idea just by looking at the pictures.

Page 3 talks about the best places to arouse men. They do a detailed breakdown of sensitive areas on the body and even the genital area. Basically talks about how to do oral sex.

Page 4 obviously talks about some popular positions with some points of interest about each one. There's also a condom ad at the bottom.

Page 5 talks about lingerie, sex toys, and how to incorporate a little S&M into the action. No Love Hotel package is complete without the "Love Goods" as they say in Japan.

In a couple of the other magazines I have here from Ranzuki and Egosys there are similar ads. I'll post them here as well so you can get an idea what the young guys and gals are learning in these magazines.

Ganguro goes west..

Postby hairygateau » Sat Jul 04, 2009 12:39 pm

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/video_and_audio/8132815.stm

"An underground youth culture in Japan which makes a rebellious fashion statement against traditional rules on eastern beauty, is taking hold on Britain's youth.
Manba involves devotees wearing dark tans, white make-up around their eyes and hair that is often a combination of neon colours.
British teenagers like 18-year-olds Eilish and Declan got caught up in manba after an interest in Japanese culture led them to start researching on the internet, where they came across the style.
Manba in Japan is also known as ganguro, gonguro, yamamba and mamba.
Yama-uba in Japanese is the name of a mountain hag in Japanese folklore whom the fashion is thought to resemble.
It has been around for nearly a decade and is an eye-catching statement against conformity."

When platform boots(atsuzoku?) were popular I think there were a lot of twisted ankles and accidents, so I can believe it, eddie.

I remember hearing that back on my JET days. Or maybe I actually read it in a newspaper or something. Anyway, I remember treating it as a true story at the time.

There were two serious boot-related accidents at the same time. One girl tripped over her heels while walking up a staircase at a station and died in the fall. Another crashed her car because she her boot slipped off the brake. She must have at least been alive to tell people what happened so I don't think she died. Coming so soon after the other accident, it raised concerns about safety.

She's not a bad looking girl but with that mamba make up and hair she's doing her best to look bad. It does look ridiculous but no more ridiculous than it looks on Japanese girls. It's kind of creepy to think that a black or white chick would want to be part of that subculture though.

I remember the car accident and if I remember correctly the girl had platform sandals on and one slipped off and under the break so she couldn't break, crashed, and killed her passenger. I think that led to some legislation about not being able to wear shoes with a height of over X number of centimeters while driving.
