New Face Of Shibuya

Work will start next week on the construction of the new development around Shibuya Station's east exit. Above is an idea of what it will look like when it is completed in the spring of 2012. The 34-storey building will be 182.5m tall and will include a 2000 seat theatre, offices, Tokyu department store, an exhibition hall and other cultural facilities. In case you've forgotten, this is what used to be there:

Wow, that's going to really dominate that area...I was a little worried that it was going to eat one of my favorite SEGA arcades, but I just checked and its on the next block over.
The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

Wow, have they finally completed this technology to make the Ginza line overhead tracks invisible or transparent? Pretty cool!

OK, actually I'm only half-joking. The Toyoko line, for example, is being moved underground at Shibuya (to connect with the Fukuktoshin line). Are they doing something similar with the Ginza line? Or was the architect here just fantasizing about how the building would look if it weren't surrounded by that nasty Ginza line overpass on one side and the Shuto expressway on the other?

And nobody notice they also developped the technology to remove all the advertising panels on the buildings.

The whole station area is due for a redevelopment but I think the Ginza line stays where it is. There's an architect's model at the end of this thread.

Great! The Ginza line has the greatest number of stairs (and no elevators) that are intended to kill off old farts and the handicapped, the best being the Ginza-Sen's Station-of-Death, Shibuya. :bounce:
