Company Sponsoring...

Postby aquamarine » Tue Jul 07, 2009 9:46 am

Well I'll be heading back in August (by the looks of things) and a company is sponsoring me. For now I'll leave the companies name off this post, we can get to that another time.

Now all of my papers had been submitted in the beginning of June to the J-Govn't which is all cool and groovy for now. Originally when speaking to the recruiter, I was told it could take up to three months for the J-govn't to go through everything and issue my certificate of elligibility. Now three weeks ago (a week or so after my sponsor submitted the papers), they had told me it would only be another month (in other words, a month and a week).

The big question is this... for those in the know, just how long is it taking these days for the J-Govn't to get through their bureaucratic filing and such to issue these letters of eligibility? My good buddy who had me go to Japan in the first place years ago was telling me it used to take up to half a year... well if you've read the VIP section, you'll know that I've been about as patient as possible.

Any thoughts?

It hasn't been taking very long lately from what I am to understand, but we're dealing with the GOJ here, so there's no real answer to your question! It could be tomorrow, or October....

Saaaa....

I just called Monday for another American guy waiting in China for approval.
Immigration just gave their standard reply, "six weeks of longer."
I replied that the application has been filed for six months.
They answered, "...blah, blah, garble-warble-farble... an issue with the sponsoring company."
In the case of my American buddy, these "delays" have occurred several times before (he has been trying to get into Land-of-Concrete for three years with three different companies). The real issue seems to be that his sponsoring companies are slow in returning requests from Immigration for additional (but minor) documentation.

The actual problem may be that his sponsoring companies don't place much priority on doing any additional redtape for a potential employee when they are not sure of they need that employee. Since all Japanese are conflict-adverse, companies often lie about Immigration delays rather than just saying, "no."

Also, over the years I have noticed that Tokyo Immigration just lies from time to time saying they haven't received proper additional documentation sponsoring companies rather than saying, "fuck-off, we'll get around to when we get around to it."

I just happened to stumble across a bunch of checks for my Canadian bank account. I wonder, are North American checks of any use over in the concrete butt-plug at all?

Properly endored to me, I'm sure I can find a way to help you with your N. American check cashing problem...because I won't mind the bank demanding at least a $40 handling fee from processing your check, if they decide your check is acceptable. The post offices used to charge a lower percent, but they refused to handle my Dubuya fiscal stimulus check two years or so ago, which may have just been their opinion about the beloved ex-Prez Cheney. Bring your checks, you might be able to use them as a topic of conversation with some chicks....

Well, you can use them as fire-starter if you go camping. Alternatively you could cut them all in half and use the back side as small note-paper squares by your phone. Maybe for making origami? Can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

On a more serious note, the only thing they would be useful for while you are in Japan is paying for things in Canada or maybe the US. For example if you subscribed to a magazine and wanted to pay for it by cheque instead of a credit card, or if you wanted to use them to pay your Canadian credit card bills from money in your chequing account.

Totally useless for anything inside Japan though. Personal cheques basically do not exist here and the only thing they would do is create laughter.
