Iida Board of Education Revises ELT Contracts

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Jul 23, 2009 3:18 pm

The Board of Education in Iida City in Nagano has announced it is revising the contract terms of the ELTs it employs because the previous contracts were unsatisfactory. Contract terms will be one year rather than 6 months. Commuting and travel expenses will be covered on the same terms offered to ordinary council workers. ELTs will also be included in health insurance, pension and unemployment insurance schemes. These changes will apply retroactively and contract details will be available in both English and Japanese.

I haven't followed this particularly so I don't know whether the Iida Board is an early or late mover in making these changes but it's clear their old contracts were pretty poor and ran foul of existing labour laws let alone the new immigration laws

They might actually be starting to think that ALTs are human beings.
His [Brendan Behan's] last words were to several nuns standing over his bed, "God bless you, may your sons all be bishops."

Or that there was some kind of official investigation and an improvement order given.
