41% Of Women Who Have Been Pregnant Have Experienced A Miscarriage

Zee News: 41% of Japanese women have had miscarriages
Over 40 percent of Japanese women who have gone through pregnancy have experienced miscarriages, a government survey showed on Sunday. The survey conducted by a health ministry research group also said around 80,000 women a year are believed to be diagnosed as having had repeat miscarriages or stillbirths, and end up not having children. "We have found that miscarriages happen more frequently than people assume," said Mayumi Sugiura, professor at Nagoya City University who was involved in the research under the ministry. Sugiura also said that women who have repeatedly experienced miscarriages or stillbirths can still have children if they undergo the appropriate treatment, and urged them to be examined to determine the cause of the problem. The group conducted the survey on women aged 35 to 79, who underwent health checkups in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, during a one-year period from February 2007. Of the 503 respondents, 458 had experienced pregnancy, of whom 190, or 41.5 percent, had suffered miscarriages. Based on the survey outcome and other data, the group estimated that around 79,000 women are believed to experience repeat miscarriages or stillbirths annually. Most miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormality in the fetus, a natural phenomenon that occurs at a uniform rate, so it is likely that a woman could have a baby with her next pregnancy, according to Sugiura.

Looks like someone's trying to shift the blame for the nation's decling birthrate onto the lady folk? It wouldn't happen to be all those highly stressed, over-worked, Tengu packing men now, would it...

That number has got to be too high.

another reason could be that japanese women are discouraged from putting on too much weight during pregnancy under the theory that the more they eat, the bigger the baby will be, and the more painful/difficult the birth will be.

I've heard that 60-80% of pregnancies end in miscarriages, usually before the mother ever knows she's pregnant.

Do you really think the other 59% of the women in this survey answered honestly to the questions? I bet this Professor Mayumi babe asked random gyarus at the Nagoya station with a clipboard in her hand -- no anonymity whatsoever.

I once knew this dumb fuckin J chick (I only fuckin knew her. Never ever had any type of relationship of that sort) who wanted to get preggers to marry the dude, but couldn't because she always ended up in a miscarriage. She weighed no more than a paperclip and I couldn't imagine how a "child" so little could give birth to another. It's gross as hell but I bet the guy was stoked about the free birth control part..

Is Nagoya City University the same as Meidai Byoin ? There is always that dogfight between the city hospital and the nationnal, so if you add university to the mix it get far over what I can understand while sober.

Meidai is kinda big... While the city hospital was a second rate choice for obgyn... And the family name of the gurl don't ring any bell while 1- in obgyn... it's kinda a small small world and 2 she have the same furst name as me bitch... and the usual level of conversation between these people is so low that this kind of coincidence can easily make it to the front page of "Puntang Monthly" the official magasine of the obgyns.

Ok, up t'il now I make no sense whatsoever, but... the fact is, usually patient are dispatched according to their problems. AND normal deliveries don't happen in hospital but in private clinic (better cable tv selection, better food, nastier nurses and so on). Only troublesome pregnancy usually go to hospitals. So pushing stats after only observing stuff from 1 hospital, in a medium town is like... bullshit... but big time bullshit, to a level that would eclipse the whole "Saddam Hussein has WMD, is the father of Ben Laden and don't wash his hands after going to the loo". It's like saying that a huge majority of people living at a certain address are dead... without saying said address is on of a cemetry.

The second fact is... for university hospital, usually, doctor have to publish papers to have money... So they have to make a study... on... something... For me bitch it was experimenting on mouses, most of the time killing them by accident, most of the remaining time letting them escape in the lab by mistake, running home, borrowing me cat, sneaking it in the lab in hope it catch said mice before it chew through too many cables. Then realize that a French female cat is like every other parisian girl, she can dine on coffee and cigarets for weeks but won't approach a mouse (unless it's sexual). To come to the point... These studies need to be published in the local scientific rag, so must have a little serious in them... but looking serious is enough... containing actual relevant information is totally optionnal. So one day you can have an article aboot how french cats are useless at mouse hunting, the other day you will have an article aboot how most people coming to the hospital are either sick or injured or had a misscarriage.
