In the worst case, you can try applying for a 90 day tourist visa which you may be able to do without leaving the country. You wouldn't want to leave that option too late.

The simple answer is no, and the best thing is to contact the immigration office yourself and ask them. Changing to a tourist and then again to a Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa once you find someone willing to employ you will leave a gap where you won't be able legally work.
