I'll be in Tokyo 8/8 - 8/10 and would love to meet up with some other FGs. It's been 3 years since I was last in Japan and 5 since I lived in Tokyo. The first person to reply to this gets a free round.

I remember Ozeki 1 cups being only about 150yen. Shouldn't put too big of a dent in the wallet.

I'll be back in Tokyo from the 8/15-8/19, but with family in tow and uh, while my wife loves to get shit faced too we have to think of the children.

How much are rental keitai?

I don't know the current going rate, but they are reasonable and most of my visitors rent them right at Narita on arrival and turn them in there. They just go to the credit card...

Gomi may have some better places and more up to date info as keitai's are her thing.....

Nah - I know nothing about contracts and costs and where to rent phones. Now if you ask me about apps and software and dictionaries and imode etc, that is a different story.

Just go with with the airport ones - they are pretty competitive.

My sister in law had a company that delivered to the hotel and it was waiting for her when she got there. Then she just dropped it back at the drop off point at the airport on the way out. I will ask her to see what the company was called. She got a fairly decent softbank phone that she was able to send photos and blog etc. I don't think it was that expensive for packets. The call costs were high but we mainly used it to call her and she sent texts so it worked out much cheaper than roaming in on her Aus phone.

Yep - just got a mail back from the sister in law and she said it was rentafone.

She paid the following for around 9 days use.
One week rental charge- Yen 3900
Extra days ( 2 @ Yen 300)- Yen 600
Call charges- Yen 4125 (for calculation see below)
Total - Yen 8625

While not disagreeing with the goddess, but if by chance, you want to look at the options at the airport, here they are...although these lists also includes companies renting non-J phones to J folks to use overseas.

Probably best to use KG's info as he has probably used these companies.
