LOL. I think the scare factor depends a lot of what type of building you're in and what floor you're on.

I can't say I didn't "notice" this one. It had me alert, but not scared.

I think things need to start flying off of dressers and walls before I actually get scared during one rather than just heightening my senses.

You do get used to them after a while.

Well, I just discovered the exact time the earthquake hit Tokyo (and killed my wall clock).

Fucking earthquake. Because of O-bon, I finally have a day off because off and my girlfried is visiting her family. I was soooo looking forward to sleeping in for a change. Instead I get shaken awake at five in the goddam morning.

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

No, it will be quiet again until December 21, 2012...which means that we have to prepare for the Final Bicycle Theft and Conbini Looting.
I'm very happy about this, as gf's birthday is December 22. Already told her no present that year, as she won't have time to enjoy it. A series of gomen nasais were offered afterwards.

I'll buy you a new one for next father's day...

Toyohashi reporting here... 3 only, felt really safe for a quake. started and reached a plateau fast. then stayed at the same strength, then disappeared. Usually there is this whole rise in intensity where you ask yourself at which strength it will stop. Strangely enough, the building didn't feel like moving, only the furniture were appearing to shake.
Baby cat scared, but just nervous not shitless as usual. Old cat woke up when she saw everybody was up and noisy, then proceeded to ask for breakfast.
Didn't feel anything for the one 1 or 2 days ago.

During the quake, my cat stomped over me and meowing in my face to stop the shaking...and it did.
Now stupid kitty thinks earthquakes are just another cat toy I use to torment her.:hehe:

That's the clearest memory I have* of a big one we had around here a while back. I was in a shopping centre on the 3rd floor with a big atrium kind of thing in the middle. About 5 minutes after the quake you could smell the wine.

Holy crap, Taro. I just compared your clock to the official time of the earthquake. It stopped 2 minutes early. Do you realize what that means? Your clock actually has the only known working implementation of the earthquake advance warning system in Japan! Get that thing on Yahoo Auctions fast. It could be worth thousands!! (of yen...)

Hey, Doc that wasn't Mercian, that was top shelf Akadu!

Akadama is the only competition to Thunderbird and has been the discriminating wino's choice for the last 64 years! Used to get combat jugs of it for about 150 yen, which was enough to keep three guys lit up all night and still have enough left over to pour into the gas tank for the drive home!

Akado! What you can't drink, you can use to remove the old paint off the walls! One belch will keep the hogs out of the kitchen for weeks.
