Japanese Ebay Bidder Withdraws Winning Bid To Get On Top Of Marilyn Monroe

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Aug 27, 2009 2:35 pm

DPA: Bidder cancels purchase of crypt above Marilyn Monroe
A Japanese bidder has withdrawn his winning 4.6-million-dollar bid for the crypt above the grave of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe, saying he could not come up with the cash, the Los Angeles Times reported on Tuesday. The anonymous bidder had beaten out stiff competition for the coveted site in the Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles, where the sex idol was buried in 1962 after she died aged 36 of a probable overdose of barbiturates...The winning bidder, whose identity was not released, backed out after receiving an invoice for the bid amount, saying: "I am awfully sorry but I need to cancel this because of the paying problem," the report said. A representative for Poncher has now contacted the 11 other bidders who offered over 4.5 million dollars, giving them 24 hours to make an offer...more...

Deadbeat bidder! Avoid! Should be banned from eBay!

I'd like to blow my wad on your avatar, Doc.

Wait, I take that back; I'd like to defecate on it. My mission: to find Mr. James and defecate on him. That'd make him mine, kind of like in the dog world.

Obiously the story is nonsense as we all know Japanese use Yahoo Auction, not eBay. ;)

I don't find this to be a major problem on eBay. There have been a few high profile busts but generally shill bidding isn't a particularly big problem in my experience.

I think it does happen with some sellers on Yahoo though. Yahoo seems far more relaxed about seller rule enforcement than eBay.
