Erection Blunders

Postby Doctor Stop » Mon Aug 31, 2009 5:59 pm

The first of many to come:

Election staff blunder allows 11-year-old to vote in Sunday election

An 11-year-old girl here voted in the House of Representative election Sunday after she was given a ballot sheet by mistake, the municipal election committee here has admitted.

The 11-year-old elementary school girl, who visited a poll station in Osaka's Nishi-Yodogawa Ward with her father, voted for a party in a proportional representation bloc as well as a review of the Supreme Court justices, the election committee said.

Election staff believed the girl, who is relatively tall for her age, was an adult voter. It was only after she finished voting that the staff noticed the error.

As it is impossible to identify the girl's ballots, they have been regarded valid in accordance with the Public Offices Election Law.

Supposed to have a postcard that is sent to you I think.

Does that mean I can vote too if I stole someone else's postcard?

Not sure if this fits the thread, but up here in Aomori district 2, not one but two TV stations called the election for the DPJ candidate at about 9:30, only to have the real result come in at about 1:00am that she had lost by 300 votes. The fat ass LDP bastard pulled one out of the fire. Unfortunately I was assisting the DPJ candidate, I drove one of the sound trucks for a day, and folded a million damn flyers, only to have it given to us then taken away.

Damn, DiPshitsJ party is copying the US democrats in every way possible! At least that's one great thing the US exported to Japan in a long time.

Yeah the completely blew it. Today on their newscasts they apologized profusely for giving the results before the actual ballots were all counted. IT was rather embarrassing, we had the banzai chant, and there must have been a million photos snapped, all for nothing. Now of course this doesn't rival the Al Gore win/ loss of the 2000 election, but pretty damn close.

I don't know if ID is required or not, never been to a Japanese polling station.

I'm guessing what happened though is that she passed through the entrance with her father, and he handed in his postcard and/or showed ID. As a minor accompanying her father she was let in too. The ballots were probably handed out at a separate table inside, and they passed one to her as well. She took it and voted.

I'd put 1/3 the blame on the people at the polling station for being idiots, 1/3 on the father for not watching his daughter, and 1/3 on her for not refusing the ballot. Maybe 40/40/20 instead of 33/33/33...
