Mitsubishi... from their kamikaze planes to their deffective trucks their only tradition seems to make stuff that go boom...

I was quite nervous when I read the news few days ago aboot them going to produce Lithium polymer batteries. For those of you who don't care...
Lipo batteries are notoriously dangerous. Sony laptop exploding... it was lipos, IPod exploding, Lipos again. In fact in these devices they are excessively under-used to avoid fire and explosions.
But in the RC field (especially planes and helo) they are more 'bare' and used more intensively. a quick googling on lipo and fire or explosion in youtube will give you more hits than you want to look at. So having a company like mitsubishi producing these bundle of troubles was worrying enough.

Now having them want to do wireless power transfer from orbit... Somebody will have to call Tom Clancy to know just how bad it could get...

(which is bad luck in fact because, the last Galant sedan, Or Delica D5 are quite eye catching, and I know, it's not the same company, they just share the same name and logo, and tradition, and country, and shareholders)

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

It seems like a grand idea, but I would think there are cheaper ways to implement renewable energy projects on a widescale for less money.

Japan's $21 billion power generator in space

Postby Taro Toporific » Thu Sep 03, 2009 8:03 am

SLASHDOT reports...
Japan has announced plans to send a $21 billion solar power generator into space that will be capable of producing one gigawatt of energy, or enough to power 294,000 homes. The project recently received support from Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and IHI Corp, who are now teaming up in the race to develop new technology within four years that can beam electricity back to Earth without the use of cables...
...rather than $71,000 per home to buy some spacetoy, they could just spend $10,000 per home and put the solar panels directly on the roof.

Lol, typical.....

Would be also better if they could just tap in the Birkeland currents running directly from the sun already.

And if it's bumped by one of the thousands of pieces of space debris now flying around up there, and/or a passing rock, the microwave beam may end up pointing where it shouldn't . . .
