You're on a non-private jet. You get treated like the rest of us. What do you expect?

I actually think, for ecological reasons, its good when diplomats, VIPs etc fly with the rest of us.

He was probably expecting to get treated the way Japanese diplomats are treated when they arrive in Sri Lanka, which I would imagine is not at all "like the rest of us", regardless of what kind of aircraft they use. Countries always have reciprocal arrangements for diplomats. But it sounds like in this case the Sri Lanka folks might have fucked up the procedures, which is why he got accidentally lumped in with the rest of the passengers.

Still I think those with their own war stories are going to be rolling their eyeballs pretty heavily when they see a whopping 30 minute ordeal was considered newsworthy.

Daily Mirror: Fiasco in Japan

I especially like this....".....They attribute the mix-up to the Premier visiting Japan not on an official Japanese Government invitation, but on one extended by a leading Buddhist temple in Kobe, to be the chief guest at a ceremony at the temple. This resulted in him being granted an ordinary visa. Several attempts made to contact the Information Counsellor of the Japanese Embassy in Colombo in this regard were not successful....."

Of course it is not the Japanese Embassy/government's fault. It doesn't matter if the Head of State (of a recognized country) is visiting Japan for a Tiddlywinks Tourney, the J-Embassy is supposed to have the gaimushou notified, so they can assign someone to monitor the trip. It does not matter if it is unofficial trip as long as it is a Prime Minister/President level Head of State.

Someone is probably about to receive their first reassignment as the new Assistant 4th Secretary in Charge of Penguin Counting at the soon-to-be-established Antarctica Annex of the Gaimushou....
