I remember hearing about a study in the US that showed on average if you want to know how many sexual partners someone has had you take whatever number women give you and multiply by two and take whatever number men give you and divide by three.

I've had a number of relationships in which I had partners on the side, and I've always (aside from pre-adulthood) been honest about it. If you're straight about it from the beginning... whether it ends the relationship or not is her choice.

As for the quote, I would say that the topic of gender expectations is far more complicated than can be summed up in a few mere sentences. There are many factors involved. Let's not forget that there is a few million years of evolution (or a few thousand years of "Satan" depending on who you ask) backing our hormones. The social hierarchy, both in the present and past, are affected by these natural patterns. However fast we have "educated" ourselves socially, we can not change the fact that our genes have not changed at nearly the same pace.
