T-minus one week

Postby irishpacker » Thu Sep 17, 2009 6:51 pm

Right, I'm off to Japan next week on the old Working Holiday Visa. I still have nothing but vague stories from mates and emails from bar managers telling me I'll find a job no-bother. More importantly I have not yet 100% decided on where to base myself!

Think, at this late stage, I'll go to Osaka for the simple reason that a few people said it's better than Tokyo! So if any of you lot are about let me know and we'll do some pints (or the Japanese equivilant!) I know no one over there and I'd appreciate a random chat with some knowledgable gaijin!

Hum... The closer departure day gets the more underprepared I feel, but feck it, I just want to get over there and worry about jobs when I'm there!

Let the madness begin!

Bernard: I think you should wash it, yeah. Then shave it off, nail it to a frisbee, and fling it over a rainbow.

And so it begins...

I have seen a few of your post, but I did not remember if you had been to the island of the rising sun before...I have not but I have been dropped into enough different locations that no matter what information you gather from others it will always look different when you see or attempt it yourself.

One of my many places of employment in Chicago was a true Irish pub Fado, when I first started or accepted the job I laughed because I was going to be one of those 'Black Irish' I have heard so much about but never had seen. Welll, my first few weeks I could not understand a damn thing they said to me-like I was watching the independant film channel and the subtitles were off. But, as I started drinking with them (and yes, they can drink in Chicago too) I began to understand!

What does any of that mean to you, I am not sure...but do your best and keep us posted! I for one want to know where I can get a drink when I hop off that plane on my first trip there!

cheers!

Oh another eikwaiwa endeavor in the making.
My only advice is go make a stop at Akihabara (A-Ki-Ha-Ba-RRRRRRa) and go to those maid cafes. It will blow your mind, amongst other things, and it will be the time of your life... really. Good luck.
