Defense Agency spies on the Japanese

Postby cstaylor » Tue May 28, 2002 11:20 pm

Defense Agency dug up personal details on info seekers
The Defense Agency collected private information on more than 100 people who asked for access to the agency's inside records in suspected violation of the privacy protection law, the Mainichi learned Tuesday.

The Defense Agency's actions are controversial because the data includes their jobs and political views.

Nice... should Japan even have a Defense Agency? And why does it have enough cash to cover the costs of spying on Japanese citizens exercising their legal rights?

I guess what I mean is that Article 9 renounces the need for a military, and here the Japanese military-industrial complex spying on its own citizens with their tax payer cash.

But, yeah, I guess in light of the hostess club investigators, this expense makes more fiscal sense.

Thank god the reporters in this country don't roll over:
Facing persistent reporters, the Defense Agency revealed that a lieutenant commander of the Maritime Self-Defense Force made a list of 142 people who had sought access to the agency's internal records, and compiled private data about the individuals -- including their jobs and political beliefs -- for the perusal of high-ranking officials

And out they go! Hope the electorate remembers this when it comes to election time. Hey Hey Ho Ho the LDP needs to go!
