I was at a drinks party with some Japanese bankers last night and one of them joked that Nakagawa had "sacrificed himself" for the good of the country. By getting smashed, embarrassing himself and then resigning, he had helped to weaken the yen which is good for the Japanese economy.

By the logic of that schematically lame j-oyaji joke, the value of the yen should have been effectively zero for as long as the LDP has been in power, since getting smashed, embarrassing themselves, and then resigning is the raison d'etre of those shoe-polish-haired buffoons. I'll have to go back and check whether the yen fell when Taku Yamazaki's mistress wrote that he liked to be defecated on.

More on Nakagawa:

Nakagawa's brain 'turned off' in meeting with Russian

http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20090221a2.html

"According to the sources, a Russian diplomat who attended the meeting said Nakagawa behaved "as if the power switch of his brain had been turned off" during the 15-minute meeting.

"The Russian side, although it had its own translator, could only understand what Nakagawa was saying through the translator on the Japanese side, the sources said."

Why's everybody knocking this guy?

He got drunk and quit.
So many times I wanted to do that and couldn't.

Ex-finance chief Nakagawa was witnessed misbehaving at Vatican Museum

BELGRADE, Feb. 21 KYODO
Former Japanese Finance Minister Shoichi Nakagawa misbehaved while visiting the Vatican Museum immediately after his ridiculed post-Group of Seven press conference in Rome on Feb. 14 that led to his resignation, people concerned at the Vatican said Friday.
Nakagawa at one point climbed over a barrier around a statue of the Trojan priest Laocoon, causing an alarm to go off, and touched some art objects that are not supposed to be touched, they said, adding however that the museum will not raise a protest.
Nakagawa visited the museum in the afternoon with some senior officials from the Japanese Finance Ministry for about one and a half hours. They were accompanied by museum officials.
The museum officials apparently did not find Nakagawa's behavior a serious problem at the time, according to those concerned.
Nakagawa resigned Tuesday after drawing media attention for slurring his words and seemingly dozing off during a press briefing held after the G-7 financial chiefs' meeting over the deteriorating world economy.
His behavior raised suspicions that he may have been drunk at the time.

I could see this coming. Now everytime someone does something that someone else doesn't like it will be immediately ventured that he must have been drunk. As I said, being compared with politicians gives us drunks a bad name.

And the thing about the LDP that amuses me is that, Koizumi paid lip service to the Japanese people with his false threats of destroying the LDP but PM . Asshole is the one that truly destroyed the LDP.

Right now, PM. Asshole is clinging to the LDP throne of power and deceit and the only thing keeping him there, is that the 2009 budget has not been passed due to the opposition stalling deliberation.

However, it looks like the Minshuto party is poised to urge a vote of no confidence on PM Asshole, which makes this very interesting and sort of places the LDP even more in a position between a rock and hard place as, the LDP wants Asshole out, but they can't whip up anyone else nor will 4 Pms unelected by the people, be taken lightly.
So, what will the LDP do in a vote of no confidence, if they vote for it, they are screwed as an election with Asshole as the LDP top is in order as they won't have time to mess around with their internal election. if they vote against it, they are supporting Asshole and can not then dethrone him.

Perhaps, the LDP plans to assassinate Asshole for a sympathy vote.

Was it suicide like his old man, or did he fall and hit his head in a drunken stupor a la William Holden.
56 is quite young, and I thought for sure he had many years of Amakudari left in him. Oh well RIP.

Japanese ex-minister found dead

Postby Dragonette » Sun Oct 04, 2009 2:46 pm

From BBC News:
Police in Japan say former finance minister Shoichi Nakagawa, who resigned over apparent drunken behaviour at a G7 meeting, has been found dead.

Image

Mr Nakagawa, 56, was found dead in a bedroom at his Tokyo home, Japanese news agencies reported.

The long-time LDP lawmaker stepped down as finance minister after appearing groggy at a news conference in February at G7 talks in Rome.

He then lost his seat in his party's 30 August election drubbing.

The cause of Mr Nakagawa's death was under investigation, a police spokeswoman told the Associated Press news agency.

Japanese media reports said he was found face down on the bed by his wife, with no external injuries.

Mr Nakagawa - a lawmaker from the northern island of Hokkaido - was a member of the Japanese parliament for more than 25 years.

So, whaddaya think?
Was it that last bender that did him in,
or did he finally decide to "do the right thing"?

His father Nakagawa Ichiro was going to be historical prime minister unless he was killed by Inagawa-kai which was a request from damn CIA. And he too was expected to be prime miniser instead of his father.

Anyway RIP

Take, you like conspiracy better than the TV casters. Ichiro cashed in his chips by swallowing a bottle of pills in a Susukino Hotel right after he lost the bid for prime minister in 83. His Secretary at one time was Muneo, so he make a helluva better conspirator than Inakawa Ojisan or the CIA.

However, I agree with you, RIP

I am wholeheartedly sure that Major Nakagawa was killed by CIA. Major Nakagawa and Tanaka Kakuei were representative politicians of independence(from America) school. So he was done. At least Minor Nakgawa believed so. And this was very the reason why Minor Nakagawa became alcohol addiction.

Oops - am I supposed to shred those memos before throwing them out? I seem to recall a memo about shredding sensitive memos but I think that was one I did shred. Nevermind. Pretend you didn't see this.
