That was really weird. As I sit here in my office in Manhattan I almost felt like I just sat down in the train. Bizarre virtual reality.

Ahhhh, speaking of "Bizarre virtual reality": What the oni are you doing in your office in Manhattan at 1:09 AM?

BTW: Although I've been to this Yamamote-sen noise page before, I can't listen to it now. Does it cover the new "Astro Boy" theme that plays at Takenobaba?

*Here in my office I have prudently uninstalled my soundcard to prevent any embarrassing noises (well, any more embarrassing noises than those I already make by tooting my train airhorn into my Airon chair).

Postby Caustic Saint » Sat Jul 26, 2003 12:55 am

...on Taro's original link turned up these three pages:

Sound of JR

Sound of Private Railway

Misc. Sounds
More caustic. Less saint.

In a word, thanks.

I took many rolls of film to capture the feeling of my time in Japan, but audio is another dimension. Here is one of the coolest ambient sound sites I've found: http://www.quietamerican.org/disc_vox_americana.html
It inspires me to learn the art of sound recording as well.

If only I could capture the smell of booze, cigarettes, and salariman that drifts in the Nagoya subway.
