The Japanese Mistress In "Domicile Conjugal"

François Truffaut's 1970 romantic comedy "Domicile Conjugal" has the leading (married) man fall for a Japanese girl. The whole film is up on YouTube with English subtitles, so you could just watch it all the way through. However, I've indicated the major "Japanese"scenes below if you are just interested those. "Kyoko" is played by Hiroko Berghauer, better known in Japan as Hiroko Matsumoto. She was one of Japan's first international models working exclusively for Pierre Cardin in Paris for many years after he noticed her during a trip to Tokyo.

Kyoko turns up first about halfway through the film as part of a group of Japanese clients who have come to see Antoine's boss which you see at the beginning of the clip below. He recovers a bracelet for her and take it to her apartment at around 1:40. At the 8:00 mark, Antoine heads back to her place.

She next appears about 30 seconds into this clip. Then at 3:05, she's having coffee with Antoine and a conversation which surprises him. At 4:20 his wife finds out about Kyoko and chooses a striking way to let him know she knows.

At the beginning of the next clip, the novelty of Kyoko is beginning to wear off for Antoine.

At just after the 4:00 minute mark you can see the relationship unravelling

If the film was shot in 1970 it doesn't make a difference if you put it on DVD, Bluray or lossless 1080p. The actual resolution and quality will still be the same as it was shot in nearly 40 years ago.

Meaning what? That everyone except George Lucas has refused to upgrade their film technology over 50 years?

What I meant to say was that the only reason I would get a movie on DVD is so it would last longer than a magnetic tape, and that the whole quality argument is rather pointless for old films.

but it's not. A well mastered copy of an old film can look as good as a film from the 90s. Celluloid IS high def.

It doesn't seem to be available new in the US, where it goes under the less dramatic name of 'bed and board', but there are both sellers on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Bed-Board-Domicile-Annick-Asty/dp/B00000JJHL
and ebay who have it.

But this Canadian web retailer, which I've dealt with in the past with good results (they've had some really good prices on HD DVDs earlier in the year) has a new copy for $6.49 US,

http://www.inetvideo.com/Items/N01-091676

and I'm fairly certain they ship (albeit slowly and at rather steep rates) to most of the world.

Granted it will be a R1 version of the film, but I'm sure that won't be an issue for you.
