Balloon Boy Ninja Wife

Was a missing boy ever on board? Apparently not.

In a bizarre spectacle televised live, a homemade balloon lifted off from a Ft. Collins, Colo., home Thursday and sailed for two hours and more than 60 miles before softly landing in a field.

But contrary to initial reports that 6-year-old Falcon Heene – the son of a thrill-seeking reality show couple – had climbed into the helium-filled and released the rope holding it to the ground, it now seems he was at home all along – hiding in the attic of his family's garage.

"This couldn't have been a happier outcome," said Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden after the boy was found late in the afternoon.

name

An emotional Heene family adamantly denied their son's brief disappearance coinciding with a weather balloon floating away from their backyard was a hoax.

Wife Mayumi (43) and storm scientist Richard (45) take their three kids, Bradford (8), Ryo (7) and Falcon (5), out of school to go on storm chasing missions to prove Richard's theories about magnetic fields and gravity. If conditions are right, Mayumi wakes her family by shouting "Storm Approaching, Storm Approaching!" into a bullhorn. The family sleep in their clothes so they can leap out of bed and into the storm-mobile. Richard calls Mayumi his 'ninja wife'; she maintains equipment, drives the storm-mobile, films tornadoes and waits with the kids while Richard jumps on his motorbike, heads into the eye of the storm and launches rockets to measure magnetic forces. At home the family are as chaotic as a twister: the kids have no table manners and throw themselves around the house, and while Richard devotes every moment to his research, he expects Mayumi to cook, clean and run the house without any help.

ok, i have been preoccupied with real life and then an 8 hour flight so i've been off the news radar.

but are you fucking kidding me??? how does a obvious fame whoring scam like this one become international headline news??

i can't wait for richard branson to get his spaceship up and running. put these losers in there, along with everyone who's ever been on big brother/wife swap/jon and kate plus 8/america's got talent/x-factor/etc, that spastic dancing british girl, marichan and blast them all off into space where they belong.

I saw the wife in Japanese news last night. Her Japanese is a little rusty but she seemed pretty sincere about making her parents worry.

I guess they've been on some TV show in the states called 'Wife Swap' a couple times. They do sound like nut cases (who the hell names their kid Falcon?), but then again I have close family members into that whole UFO cult thing too.

The Heene family lives a few doors down from my old house in Fort Collins, Colorado. My former neighbor, a state patrolman, says that the Heene's have very strange sources of income. That is, Richard Heene claimed to be a contractor up until three years ago (but he never had a contractors license) and he also has stated he owned his newish house free-and-clear (which was true according to country records).

My neighbor, Danny, the state patrolman said that the Heene family finances were so suspicious that he informally investigated them a couple of times: No drug money--just wire transfers of HUGE amounts of money from Japan.:wink4:

News is reporting this was a hoax. I was listening to the radio Friday and a caller from a production company here in LA says he knew this guy and this type of shit is his MO. Hollywood wouldn't deal with him anymore so the guy moved back to CO.

I expect the wife and kids to be new immigrants to J-land.

Sheriff: Boy-in-balloon was hoax, charges expected

The story that a little boy had floated away in a giant helium balloon was a hoax concocted to land a reality television show, authorities said Sunday, and the boy's parents will likely face felony charges.

The stunt two weeks in the planning was a marketing ploy by Richard and Mayumi Heene, who met in acting school in Hollywood and have appeared on the ABC reality show "Wife Swap," Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said. The Heenes have reportedly been working on a reality TV deal in Los Angeles.

Investigators are examining the possibility of other conspirators, "including the possibility that even some of the media outlets may have had some knowledge about this," Alderden said.

Documents show that a media outlet has agreed to pay money to the Heenes with regards to the balloon incident, Alderden said. He didn't name the media outlet, but said it was a show that blurs "the line between entertainment and news." It wasn't clear whether the deal was signed before or after the alleged hoax, or whether that media outlet was a possible conspirator.

...

The most serious charges are felonies and carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $500,000 fine. Alderden said they would be seeking restitution for the costs, though he didn't have an estimate.

The cost for just the two military helicopters was about $14,500.

Richard and Mayumi Heene were shopping for snacks at Wal-Mart with their three sons as Alderden told reporters that the whole thing was a hoax.

Richard Heene told The Associated Press he was "seeking counsel."

According to this Yahoo News AP article the wife has admitted to it while the husband is still denying it and the two seem to have different lawyers. That's one fucked up family.

I wouldn't be surprised if, after the state child protective services got involved and she realized it is quite possible the kids might be put into protective care due to all of this, she's having second thoughts about their/hubby's plans on all of this...or more precisely, it was all his idea and she was coerced into it

Actually, the wife might have a good case. She can say she and the kids were victimized by the father. His psychotic actions on the TV lend credibility.

I expect her lawyer to portray her as the victim. She gets off and takes the kids back to Japan.

As a convicted felon, he'd probably encounter a few problems entering Japan on a visa waiver. A regular Joe Schmo with a record can easily lie to officials, but someone like him would probably be flagged.

Wouldn't it be different because he's the spouse of a (I presume) Japanese national?

I doubt it. Plus, if he were trying to come after his kids in Japan in an effort to (re) kidnap them back to the US, I doubt he'd have a spousal visa.
