Burger King Windows 7 Whopper

Postby Mulboyne » Fri Oct 23, 2009 7:30 am

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Computer World: Microsoft's Windows 7 'Whopper' campaign: The worst promotion ever?
Microsoft is celebrating the release of Windows 7 in Japan with a Burger King promotion for the Windows 7 Whopper: Seven patties stacked on top of one another in one sandwich. Given that Microsoft has been criticized for releasing top-heavy, bloated operating systems, this could be one of its worst promotional ideas ever. The Windows 7 Whopper weighs in with about 1,000 calories, and likely packs enough cholesterol to require immediate surgery for anyone foolhardy enough to try eating one. It's a full five inches thick, and costs the equivalent of $8.50...more...

Now with Windows 7 you can go from the "blue screen of death" to "code blue" at your local hospital.

I grew up on this, and pretty much crave it fortnightly...

This is the best burger joint I know -- http://www.yelp.com/biz/zekes-drive-in-gold-bar Every weekend we'd stop there after ski instructing. The caboose is gone - and so is Zeke with his "Number XXX Pick Up Ur Order at the End Wind-A!!" The burgers were still OK -- but damn - the Honeymooner shoulda been called the Double Indemnity.

I think the primary message of this co-branding campaign is right on target:

One "needs" a 7-patty 3,000 calorie bomb just as much as one "needs" a new crap O/S from Microsoft.

Is it? After spending over an hour on the train (or more than that if you drive..) and spending at least 10 bucks per way on the fare, is it still worth it?

It's fucking POPEYE'S! What other chicken joint fries their food in beef fat?

god, tokyo people are so fucking whiny. Wahhhhh an hour on the train WAHHHHHH. Most people who work in tokyo spend more than an hour to and from work everyday. An hour aint shit.

BTW, costco is 10 minutes away from popeye's. Chicken then off to get my monthly meat supply.

Hailing from LA orig. I can say without a doubt, an hour ain't shit. Try spending 2 to 3 hours in traffic everyday going to and coming from work. You're looking at about 6 hours a day on commute alone. LA is really a nightmare, but you get used to it. But I agree, When you invite people or tell them sometimes how far you live or going to some event and you hear people complain if its more than 50min. I always here, it so far. Living in Japan an hour is practically nothing.

So true ...

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Mon Oct 26, 2009 8:44 am

When I lived in Saitama and western Tokyo, I had no problem commuting for an hour. I used think, Oh, good. It's only and hour when I had to go somewhere. Since moving to central Tokyo a few years ago my whole perspective has completely changed. Now Ebisu seems too far and it's only about 20 mins.

Can anybody tell me where I can buy a copy of windows 7 in English. Or do you know if I buy the Japanese version of ultimate, will it install in or will it be in Japanese and then you can change to English? Thanks for the help and if this has been answered elsewhere I apologize for the post.

When Vista was released, you could install the English version and then download the language pack add-on to make it the native language, or vice versa. Because Win7 is mostly based on the Vista platform, I would answer YES to your question.

Thanks Tommy, but I think it might be safer to use the English version, just in case things go screwy. I see that PC Tokyo is selling Win7 home edition for Y24 900. I doubt if any of the big electronic retailers are selling English versions.

Windows 7 Ultimate is multilingual, you can change the interface at will (and per user) to any of the languages supported by Windows.

If you would like Win7 actually in a dedicated English version then the cheapest way will be to get an OEM version. The downside is that OEM versions are tied to the machine you install it to. If you buy or build a new machine there is no (legitimate) way to transfer the license to the new computer.

PC 1's on Osaka has OEM English Windows but as yet they don't have Win7 English. They do however have very cheap Windows Vista English with the free upgrade coupon to get Win7 from Microsoft. You can see the list of available options here. They have Vista Home Premium English with the upgrade coupon for 13,980.

Windows 7 Ultimate (multilingual but installation screens are probably Japanese) is only 22,780, not that much more really. :)

Seriously, I went all the way from Yokosuka to Shibuya once because it was the only BK I knew of at the time(now there's one right off base... score). Totally worth the trip for a double whopper and some rings.
