No, he was just a jerk. I'd have taken him to the station master by force.

Intent: agreed 100%
execution: 0

Following him at safe but close distance asking him to give back the coin. Untill you cross the pass of a transportation company official agent and then asking said agent to interfere and call the police, would have been much more... long, frustrating, but also -MAYBE- efficient. (because if they ask you to prove it's your coin, they might need to review the safety cams and then... it will be even longer).

What do you look like ? 1m90 for 45kg ?
Because for, me, 1.85/100kg and my everlasting stupid smile (but 0 muscle guaranteed) Wannabees and other jerkoffs tend to stay away. Only kids and grand/pa/ma don't seems to get fooled (might be the coutless cat scratches marks on my arms... and face... and clothes...).

You were going to kick some ass over a 50-yen coin? The guy kicked his own ass; how humiliating that a nihonjin has to scurry around picking up the loose change of a gaijin!

Actually, it was at Shinagawa Station that I was panhandled a couple of months ago for the very first time in Japan. I was buying a ticket and some 20-something nerdy-looking guy came up to me and laid on some schtick about - was it watches? The only thing I understood was "go-hyaku-en," so I gave him a 500-yen coin. He then asked me in English what my country was, and then when I answered said, "Oh, you are very kind American man!"

-catone

-but sometimes you gotta be cruel to be kind

in my experience, this is by far very much the exception and complete opposite. personally, i agree it sucks, but i'm not about to stir up shit and waste time over 50 yen although in principle, it's absolutely pathetic. if that were my kid's coin though i can't guarantee there wouldn't be a scene.

No it was a joke, I am not violent by any means. Haha I was more shocked than angry--I mean it was 50 yen. I kinda of looked at him and smirked like "You have got to be kidding me."

And I am a very big guy 1m82/104kg and I am black! So you assume I smuggled in a gun and listen to dirty south rap-music.

Tomorrow, purposely drop another coin at the station see what happens.
I could almost guarantee, it'll bring back some faith in humanity.

I'm not going to bend over to pick up a measy 50 yen if Greji is on the same continent...Gotta be at least 93 yen which I believe equals 600 gazillion Zimbabwe dollars.
