She is 14 years old. She is getting attention and everyone is telling her how wonderful she is. She is getting a free trip to an exotic foreign country and (hopefully) some money for doing the DVD and what not + she is being treated as a star.

Now, if you were a teenager would you rather stay at a boring island such as Isle of Man and be a nobody or would you go with adventure that grew out of you prancing around looking silly on youtube videos?

Even though the whole thing is rather silly, she is still better off going for it than staying at home at shithole island doing nothing.

That's Magibon. She also got work through an agency in Japan but fell out with them.

I saw the BBC documentary and Beckii came across very well. I was less sure about her parents. They are rightly protective of her but also want to give her the freedom to see how far she can take things. That's developed into almost a mercenary approach where they have realized that the average idol doesn't make a lot of money in Japan. This means they have gone outside her Japanese agent and put her in touch with top British producers to see if they can help her become successful outside Japan. They are looking out for their daughter's interest but are on the verge of becoming pushy showbiz parents if they aren't careful.

Her Japanese agent, who spoke excellent English, had worked out the limits her parents were setting - no gravure shots or underwear modelling - and told her to avoid interacting with very possessive fans, explaining that they were like the "worst kind of boyfriend". Nevertheless, Beckii and her parents were happy to solicit presents from fans. For her 15th birthday, her no.1 fan sent her a Fender bass to the Isle of Man. The postage would have been a hefty charge, let alone the instrument itself. He was a middle-aged man but her mum quicly reassured us that "we've all met him" and "he knows it's a friendly relationship, not anything inappropriate"

The Japanese agent had recruited another couple of foreign YouTube girls to form a trio. He was enthusiastic about a 16 year old because she was older and "ought to know what she's getting into". That girl was also interesting. She explained how she got very stressed in Japan and burst into tears which embarrassed her because the younger Beckii took everything in her stride.

She also said that her YouTube demographics showed girls her own age watching the clips and middle-aged men. It disappointed her that boys her age didn't seem interested. She also said that her male viewers were, on average, older than her dad. She added "If I thought my dad was spending time watching these videos, it would be...sad".
