IkemenTommy wrote:With all the media attention now, I predict that this fuck face Ichihashi will be caught before Christmas. It's going to be hard for this fool to continue running around without being noticed in public.

Now he will get a few ass-rapeage but before that, it's going to be a LOOOOONG legal trial with numerous appeals to come.

Someone needs to derail that shinkansen before it reaches Tokyo..

So glad to hear he has been caught. Now I hope they charge his parents with aiding and abetting while throwing the book at him of course.

I think if he was going to commit suicide he would have done it by now.

Well, the call from the plastic surgery practice, the construction company guy, and the person at the ferry terminal all led to his capture. Do the assists count, or only the goal?

Ichihashi's parents have begun to give more interviews. In this ZakZak report (Japanese), his mother denies having had any contact with him after he fled the crime scene and says she thought he might have killed himself. She didn't think he had the street smarts to be homeless.

She also says that she saw the recent pictures and immediately could tell it was him from his eyes. Asked why she hadn't made a public appeal to her son before, she answered that she thought it might be counter-productive. She felt that if there was even the slightest chance he would contact his parents, then it was best not to say anything which might deter him. She admitted that the Hawkers several times asked both parents to make an appeal but still believed it would be the wrong thing to do.

This kind of twisted self-serving logic (so common in a certain Asian country we all know rather well) just screams "HIDING SOMETHING"! I hope it makes the prosecutors as suspicious as it makes me. I also hope I'm wrong. It would be terrible to learn that the family had been in some way complicit in helping this scumbag avoid capture. But since this is a culture in which the benefit of the family/group is often held above the country at large and the law I wouldn't be entirely surprised.

Anyway, step one has been taken care of: they got the bastard. As others have mentioned, I really, really hope they make an example of him.

Last night (Tuesday) the news was showing an unedited interview with Ichihashi`s parents but now (Wednesday) their faces have been blurred. Kinda too late stupid news.

Just watched a long and inordinately phlegmatic interview with Ichihashi's father on the tube. Even the commentators on the TV show were surprised at the articulate but dispassionate way he spoke. Someone suggested that since he's a doctor, that's the way he handles any situation, but it was clear that everyone was a bit uncomfortable.

Dr. Ichihashi looks a lot like his killer/rapist son (before the plastic surgery):

When he was arrested he had a few hundred thousand yen and a toy pistol on him?

Did anyone else catch that bit of trivia?

Poor Mr. Hawker,
He obviously doesn't know about the Japanese legal system....the Hawkers' battle is far from over and justice is far from being done.
My heart goes out to the family.

In the best case, Ichihashi is just so exhausted after being on the lam for so long that he comes clean pretty quickly and enters a guilty plea to murder charges. Then we'll see what kind of sentence he gets.

What's the deal with the police moving suspects around on public transportation? It almost seems like they're trying to parade around their new trophy to show everyone they actually did something right.

He doesn't strike me as the type to do so....a fugitive for more than 2 1/2 years, cosmetic surgery to maintain the ruse, refusal to comment after his arrest and rich parents who will probably be willing to foot hefty legal bills. His only reason to plead guilty would be to gain some sort of leniency, but time on the run despite the nationwide manhunt of massive scale and apparent lack of remorse would seem to suggest there is little chance he will be given any leniency. I'd say he'll fight all the way and get maybe 10-12 years (then be out in about 8...)

And some very angry people will be waiting ... :theeye: :karma2:

More cosmetic surgery may be required.

Can you think of a quicker way to get from Osaka to Chiba at 8pm on a rainy Tuesday night?

Helicopter, but shinkansen is cheaper and more reasonable.
