All the capsule hotels have the design flaw of being "roku shaku' (6 feet) meaning most FGs need to sleep scrunched up. The other problem is if one sleeper turns over in bed the ENTIRE unit shakes all the other sleepers. Fun, ne?

Sounds precarious to say the least...as well as uncomfortable.

I stayed at a few capsules before after having one, too many night caps. For some reason, I always felt like one of these guys. Minus the delicious honey!!

"Guaranteed good sleeping"? They'll have to throw in projections of alpine meadows and herds of elk and pipe in the strains of Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite" and Beethoven's "Pastoral Symphony."

Image

-catone
-then I'd say they'd definitely have a hit here in moribund, concrete-entombed Japan.

If Panasonic's capsules are anything like their tire tubes, 1 in 4 will already have a leak.

PS:

You know, if I were a Japanese workin' man older than, say, 35, and had to use one of those taste-of-the-coffin "hotels" because my sabisu zabisu stretched into the wee hours and I was perpetually on the brink of karoshi...well, I would like to go out like Sol, pumped full of morphine and soaking in Beethoven's "Pastoral Symphony."

Xenomorph's honeycomb comparison is apt: capsule hotels are sleeping chambers for social insects like ants and bees, not for humans

Maybe it's just because I grew up sleeping on the bottom bunk, but I found them pretty comfy the one time I slept in a capsule hotel (in Kabuki-cho).

other than being able to say I slept in a real-deal capsul-hotel, I have absolutely no desire to try this. Try sleeping in a berthing on an aircraft carrier for 4 months... while someone in the top bunk is wanking and 3 other neighbors are snoring ass.

I take a dirty love-hotel over this anyday.

Luxury Capsule Hotel

Postby Mulboyne » Sun Dec 06, 2009 3:23 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]The Asahi reports (Japanese) that a Tokyo company has unveiled a new capsule hotel called 9 Hours near Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto. It is open 24 hours a day, all year round, and purports to offer a luxury facility for short stays. The Asahi reports an overnight price of 4,900 yen but it isn't clear if that is just for a 9 hour stay or the maximum of 17 hours. The hotel has been designed by Fumie Shibata of Design Studio S. She used to design for Toshiba but, after setting up independently, received commissions from companies including Muji, Zojirushi and AU. 9 Hours hopes the hotel will appeal to female customers and foreign visitors with its stylish interior, discrete service and high-end toiletries. Company president Keisuke Yusei says they chose Kyoto for their first site because it is the "home of hospitality".

Perhaps all of these endlessly fascinating innovations-in-capsule-hotel design threads could be consolidated into single one...
