Can these sunglasses really stop bullets?

Image

These are Japan Self-Defense Force Sunglasses, and apparently they're officially endorsed by Japan's military. Maybe it's because the JSDF just likes the way they look, or perhaps it's the strong lenses. Each one is boasts the ability to withstand an impact from an object 0.3 inches (or 6.55mm) traveling at 106 miles per hour. Those specs probably won't mean much against a 9mm bullet speeding toward your eye at over 1,000 miles per hour, but it does make for a neat image.

These JSDF shades can also withstand a blow from all the dollar bills that will be flying out of your wallet: all 317 of them. Check out a bonus shot after the jump.

For sale, almost full package of street napkins (one missing).
Price 50000yen

Price does not guaranteed the girl in the advertisement will be the on who answers the phone nor does payment for said napkins cover cost of services rendered. All other prices must be negotiated at time of call with the parties on the other end of the phone.

I wonder what kind of enemy could throw an entire rifle cartridge with enough accuracy and power to be a threat to JSDF personnel?

Don't knock the highly believable marketing campaign for these specs...the threat is real.

Maybe.

Are you sure these are officially endorsed by the J military? The force of impact is determined by the mass and not the object size. It seems like it is approved by a bunch of non-technical people (mph?).

Plus someone else aforementioned the flying bullet casing but if these retards are in charge of the Japanese military, we are truly screwed when there is a North Korean attack.

No I can't confirm the endorsement. I merely copied the internet posting for your enjoyment. The whole thing is quite comical though.

Yes, I know that Force = mass x acceleration.
