How Japan almost caused a war between the U.S. and Britain

This is a pretty old tale and lots of people probably already know about it, but back in the 1920s and 1930s, the United States had a contingency plan for a conflict with Britain called War Plan Red. And, it seems, Japanwas the prime reason why the "special relationship" maybe wasn't quite so special after all at that time.
We all know how things turned out in the end, but for a while there, the Anglo-Japanese Alliance must have been having some funny effects in diplomatic circles in those times when Britannia did still rule the waves.
Apologies if this is boring and something most people already know about. I only (re?)-discovered it this morning and found the subject fascinating.

It's never too late for that....
My only wish is that in the event of such an attack, it would spark a full-on exchange between the two countries and do all the rest of the world a favor!

I can see the plan to nuke the Brits called "Red," but the plan for the Aussies is "Scarlet?" Damn Hair, that makes you sound like a bunch of bitches doesn't it? You better nuke LA, before they change it to "Chartreuse" Sweetie!

If there's one thing growing up in the 80's taught me it was that.

Ah, Jacko....head of Mensa Australia (they localized the joining rules for us, I should add....IQ in double figures is enough to get in, but still only just manage to get to about the same ratio of acceptable applicants as in other countries.)

Hair, even with those liberal rules, we're talking Jacko here. If his IQ was two points lower, he'd have been a scrub. He got a school letter for his sweater in sports and the coach had to read it to him.

He and Becks (another room temperature IQ) got disqualified from a spelling bee because neither of them could name a letter of the alphabet in the required 30 seconds.

"A Bogan Party"
