If all that were involved were the teens committing a crime, then yes, you're right. But if you then added the Japanese government stepping in, hiding them away and refusing to let them be arrested by the proper authorities, then you would indeed have a huge "who do these fucking Japs think they are?" outcry.

I stated that I thought reckless endangerment was a logical starting point for the prosecutors, not a summation of the crime itself, esp. since they apparently have no real evidence beyond some people/cameras saying/showing 'there were some gaijin around' near the time of the accident. Now the accused could be total monsters and could have written in facebook earlier that day about how excited they were about getting a rope and trying to decapitate a motorcyclist that evening or they might have merely had the misfortune of being gaijins in the same area and time where something bad happened. After cops get their hands on them, they can always up the charges as the investigation progresses (which is what they did with Ichihashi, and he started out with a murdered woman's body in his apartment which a tad bit more evidence that they have in this case so far). Many of the key details unclear/unknown to the public, such as the height of the rope in the lane of traffic (which everyone seems to assume was at neck level but could have been at knee level and cause the same outcome as it has been reported) and at what time the rope was stretched across the road...ie, just as the motorcyclist approached or did the perps do it 5 minutes before the accident, leaving the scene with the thought a car or truck would hit it and this would only freak out the driver and cause no real harm but the motorcyclist was the first person to come around. Things like this don't mitigate the intent to cause harm (or the fact that someone did cause harm) but they are rather salient toward the determination of both premeditation and deliberation in regards to attempted murder.

Japan Probe reports:

According to the articles in the Yomiuri Shimbun and Tokyo Shimbun, the teens have admitted they placed the rope across the road. Exactly which teens in the group were responsible is unclear at this point, as each teen seems to be telling a different story.

It has also been revealed that there were several similar incidents [traffic cones, pieces of metal, rope blocking the road] reported in the area since June. In each of those cases, the obstruction in the road was discovered and removed before anyone was hurt.

There seems to be more of this going on as what began as articles written with a slant against US Forces instead of the incident and injury, have started getting mitigation in terms of like "hey, this wasn't right, but they're just kids," which doesn't apparently fit the reader reaction desired. So, now it appears that more damning evidence is needed.

Story picked up by CNN (finally)

Postby BigInJapan » Tue Dec 08, 2009 5:38 pm

U.S. military children arrested in Japan
December 7, 2009 4:02 p.m. EST

Tokyo, Japan (CNN) -- Four American teenagers, all children of U.S. military personnel, have been arrested on charges of attempted murder after a woman was knocked off her motorbike with rope strung across two poles, Japanese police said.

The four suspects -- two 15-year-old boys, a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man -- were taken into custody on Saturday, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department said.

They are accused of causing a severe head injury to a 23-year-old restaurant employee by stringing a rope between poles across a road.

Link to CNN story

-- It seems that CNN finally deemed this incident worthy of reporting, at this late date (maybe Kyung Lah and co. heard about it on FG...). Of course (as usual), they had to thrown in a comment about the 1995 rape of a 12-year-old girl and another in 2008. Not quite sure how those are even remotely related to a pack of military brats acting like ignorant morons that resulted in a serious injury of an innocent person. You would think they could have commented on other incidents involving military brats.

We(Japanese) can conclude that these similar incidents too were committed by those Yokota gaijin brats. Although looks like there are some gaijins trying to defend those g-brats because of piled resentments toward Japan and Japanese, you are the same as crazy Japanese girls who defend Ichibashi.
After all those gaijin brats don't regard Japanese as the same human as them. Probably the other gaijin dudes inside Yokota Air Base are almost the same as them.

Well the first time I ever heard about a case someone cabling the road was when I first came to Japan and an old Japanese guy who beheaded a bike gang member. So I don't think it is just a gaijin hobby.

Well, it's only the gaijin brats Take. If it were a Japanese brat he would have cut off her head and left it at the gate of her school (or in this case, company).
Remember that!

Yeah, I remember that happening actually! Was big news at the time and I remember thinking the guy had done the country a service...

A few days after I first arrived here Osaka police arrested some guy for running his neighbour through with a sword. I think they were fighting over a parking space, or maybe one guy was parking in front of the other's house or something... This pissed off the guy who ended up dead and he was beating the sword owner's car with a hammer. I guess the guy with the sword didn't take to kindly to that and he did the guy in. Yokoso "safety country"!

At least it wasn't a heated argument over the political ramifications of relocating the Futenma base.

So this is in the Stars & Stripes. I did a quick search but couldn't come up with anything in the local media.

Replica Sword?

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Wed Nov 30, 2011 11:02 am

If you can stab somebody to death with it, I wouldn't call it a replica. I'd just call is a sword. Maybe a cheap one but still a sword.

if you stab someone with a pencil is it just a writing tool or a weapon?

Pretty shitty cut since it takes the quote out of context. It still doesn't change the fact that McTutu was choosing to misinterpret what I said so I still blame him.

Really though... I read McTurds quote and thought... SJ is really fucked up... then reading the rest of your FULL quote made much more sense... I believe all of us have done something fucked like that, but now think it was the most fucked thing to do.
