16,000 Unclaimed Corpses

Postby Mulboyne » Wed Dec 23, 2009 6:21 pm

The Asahi has a report (Japanese) saying that, in spite of improved methods of identifying dead bodies, the police still have around 16,000 that remain unidentified and unclaimed. Many police forces around the country provide details of bodies they have found on their websites (such as this one from Aichi police) in the hope that members of the public might recognize the descriptions. Few appear to be identified this way. Police in Nagoya found one middle-aged man who had committed suicide by hanging himself with his own belt from a tree. Inside his briefcase, they found an electric razor, nail clippers, tweezers, a hand towel and hankerchief. He had 13 yen and two telephone cards in his pockets. Searching through fingerprint and dental records revealed nothing at all and no relatives have reported a missing person which matches his description. Police found a young woman dead on the street and evidence she might have jumped from a nearby building. It is very rare for the body of a young women to go unclaimed since friends and family usually report someone missing quite quickly. In this case, police wonder whether she might be an illegal immigrant which would make her friends wary about coming forward. Police will usually try to identify a body for up to eight weeks before handing it over to other authorities who will oversee cremation and keep the remains in care. In cases where they suspect foul play, Police will preserve evidence and continue to look for identification until the statute of limitations runs out (currently 25 years). In 1999, there were 1,847 cases of unidentified bodies while this fell to 1,019 in 2008, largely as a result of DNA testing. The current total is 16,622, a rise of 693 from the 2008's end of year total.

I don't think the authorities would approve of you leaving with a stiffy.

I'd avoid it if I were you guys....I'm sure one of those bodies is my ex-wife, at least it must be if you judged it on our (non-existent) sex life.
As for any warm-blooded women (and I don't care if you're as ugly as sin), I have a cold, hard stiff just waiting to be claimed. Feel free to PM me.

I'd stop by and grab a few just to save on the home heating bills this winter.
I have a blog. Last update: August 18, 2013.
