Start! Japanese Dream!

Postby Enuff Stuff » Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:32 am

[floatr]Image[/floatr]The Happy Science group has launched The Happiness Realization Party, among whose Buddhist goals are doubling the size of the population of Japan and beefing up the Japanese military.

"If you take the 'thou shalt not kill' precept too far, you cannot protect your country. Historical fact shows that weakness in Buddhism," Kyoko [Okawea] said. "That's why we wanted to develop Buddhist teaching."

Sound like another whack-job, Japanese cult to me. I'll be damned if combing science and religion for use in a political party doesn't spell trouble.

I saw those whack jobs making a speech outside my local supermarket today. At first I thought it was Komei but there message was a little too speaker bus style. By the way I love his mad cult leader sense of style. Kinda Jimmy Jones like.

Let's wish them a great start by sending them packets of kool aide! Can we send something to Sokka while we're at it?

The Day After

Postby Enuff Stuff » Sun Jul 05, 2009 8:00 pm

The party has recently released a 6-minute promo video that begins with an extended dramatization of a North Korean nuclear attack on Japan.

For those that might need an English recap, a blogger has provided one here.

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/k354akEKAZw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/k354akEKAZw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>[/YT]

The party has also launched an English page on its website, here. Among the documents are Master Ryuho's constitutional proposals.

They have been around for some years now. They had a lot of momentum before the Aum Shinrikyo sarin attack made people wary of cults. Since then, they have been building quietly and have quite substantial resources. The move into politics was a bit surprising. You can find a lot of Kofuku-no-Kagaku buildings around Shirokane-Takanawa, Sengakuji, Takanawadai and Gotanda.

I did a presentation about them at university some years ago. They have magazines for children, young people and even housewives and also have talent contests. By nurturing people with talent they hope to be able to use them as missionaries for Kofuku no Kagaku when they become famous. And don't forget their mobile phone amusement park: Satory Land.

Hmmm. Due to some kind of voodoo I only had seen Take's video and not the rest of the thread prior to my post.

Looking at their website, I guess it's obvious they didn't just spring up all those garish buildings overnight. Until now I just haven't seen anything from them, and now all of the sudden they're telling us that China and North Korea are going to ream poor li'l Japan unless we vote for El Cantare or whatever. (It sounds like this guy's enlightenment came after he had one too many glasses of wine somewhere in Little Italy.)

What's more surprising is that they couldn't find a more attractive face for their party's lead than the wife of the top guru in charge of this whole nutshow. If this guy was really plugged into the higher powers of holy-moly, you'd think he could do better than that.

First time I saw that poster, the second question which struck my mind was whether "happiness realization" meant they were going to get that lady some plastic surgery if they got elected somehow.

I rode past one of their "centers" yesterday and couldn't help but notice all the columns and Roman-esque architecture. Ugly building, ugly people. Does wanting to egg the place make me a bad man?

It appears there is deep confusion within party ranks. According to today's news, there will be no party-wide withdraw, only select candidates.

Maybe the reincarnated Devadatta is causing trouble.

Happiness party denies poll exit
Kyodo News

The newly founded Happiness Realization Party denied Thursday it would withdraw from the Aug. 30 general election, apparently reversing a decision to cancel the fielding of 347 candidates nationwide.

At a news conference, however, officials from the party, which was founded by the Happy Science religion, said they would be unable to field some of the candidates who initially intended to run. They didn't elaborate.

According to sources, Ryuho Okawa, the leader of Happiness Realization, told some candidates the party planned to withdraw from the election. But some of them apparently opposed the move, and party executives were discussing their options, the sources said.

"A responsible department of the party headquarters told us the party will not run in the election," a source at Happiness Realization's local branch in Kyoto Prefecture said before Thursday's denial.

"What the top leader is said to be thinking was conveyed to me. I think the party will withdraw from the election," a candidate planning to run in Tokyo said.

The party has said it planned to field candidates in all 300 single-seat and 11 proportional-representation constituencies.

Okawa said last month that he himself would run in the election, placing himself at the head of the list of party candidates in the Tokyo proportional-representation block.

Their buildings always caught my eye thinking it is a Pachinko (/love hotel). This one is so big compared to the one in Tachikawa and Chiba-shi. What a surprise to find out that they have a huge boarding school-Happy Science Academy, which consist of Junior High School and High School in Tochigi-ken, to be opened in April 2010.... and I didn't know that the Japanese Anime movie- Rebirth of Buddha is also their movie directed by Master Okawa.
