Sukeban Deka on DVD?

Postby Greener » Sun Aug 03, 2003 5:34 pm

For the last decade I've been a huge fan of the cult Japanese action/drama Sukeban Deka. SD to those who don't know what this was starred a schoolgirl bully who was really an undercover police detective. This show originally starred Yuki Saito and later Yoko Minamino and it ran from 1984-1987 with 3 movies.

When I lived in Gotemba I mentioned to the 3 rather lovely girls in my class, (all my age of 26,) that I liked this show and they all stood up and posed like the 3 main girls from Sukeban Deka II. (By all accounts they were making fun of me, I was ashamed...)

I am wondering if anyone knows if this show is available in Japan on DVD or is still shown in reruns. I will be going back to Japan sometime next year, (I hope,) and would love to snag some disks or check this show out again in reruns. Any and all help on locating this show would be most appreciated!

I cannot be sure, but like the U.S., Japan has found a bit of a market in releasing old T.V. shows on DVD. It is doubtful they would be released in the rest of Asia, but can't be sure. You might check http://www.dddhouse.com as one source. They tend to be a lot cheaper (but maybe lower quality) than the Japanese releases, and they almost always have English subtitles, unlike the Japanese releases. They also tend to be region-free coded.

Try ebay, too. I get some good, cheap DVD's there.
