Dice-K Tells Japanese Press He Hid Injury From Red Sox

Postby Mulboyne » Mon Jan 11, 2010 10:10 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Sporting News: Daisuke Matsuzaka admits he hid injury from Red Sox
The injury problems that have plagued Boston right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka since the 2009 World Baseball Classic might actually have predated the event, unbeknown to Red Sox officials. Matsuzaka recently told the Japanese magazine Friday that his problems all began with a leg injury he suffered while preparing to pitch for his country and evolved, because of bad mechanics, into the shoulder injury that eventually landed him on the disabled list. Dice-K admitted to the magazine that he kept the leg injury hidden from the Red Sox, according to translation of the story by The Boston Globe. He also said he tried to heal himself while remaining in the Red Sox rotation, a plan that backfired. "In hindsight," he said, "it was impossible to continue faking the whole season. It was too much mental stress."

The Boston Globe translated his comments here.

This kid's a moron. Didn't he learn his lesson the last time he spoke to the Japanese press?

Maybe he thought hiding his injury would be interpreted as the samurai spirit? ;) He does seem pretty thick though..

Every single time he opens his mouth to Japanese press, his popularity in Boston dips lower and lower, but I don't really think people should care that much about the FOURTH best pitcher on the Sox starting rotation, I hope you kept that 100 million dollars nicely invested, because it you are not going to see a paycheck like that ever again.
I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.

Had a chance to meet him once at a baseball gathering. He was okay when talking about baseball things, but seemed to have problems with complex questions, like "what time is it?", or "where's the loo?"....

Actually, in Japanese sports like baseball, or even Sumo, I don't think we can expect too many rocket science dissertations from some of these guys. They go to a half a day of high school, are not required to maintain any grade average to speak of and spend the rest of the day at their sport. Most of the star-class live in dormitories so they have only their team mates to interact with and a lot of those will not usually appear on the dean's list. When they go to pro-ball they go to another dormitory and any study other than the sport is usually something like how to properly sign an autograph.

But in all fairness, this is a phenomonum that does not limit itself to Japan. There are the exception to the rule, but they can sometimes be few and far between. I say this with some expertise having once been a jock...

I wonder if the Red Sox could get some of their salary back from him for this.

I am pretty sure he wooed her with his winning intellect and charming smile. Who says money doesn't buy happiness?

She has a couple of very considerable assets of her own that I can see probably played a part in wooing him, too....

I don't know if it bought him happiness, but he sure was able to rent some good flops in the futon for a prolonged period. Lucky bastard.....
