Man Kills One, Injures Another Over Ear-Cleaning Snub

Postby Mulboyne » Tue Aug 04, 2009 3:19 am

Reuters: One dead in ear-cleaning salon attack
A customer banned from a Tokyo ear-cleaning salon was arrested in Tokyo Monday on suspicion of stabbing a young woman working at the salon and killing her grandmother, Japanese media reported. Japan has many salons where workers, often women, clean customers' ears with ear picks, sometimes as the customers lie on the workers' laps. The 41-year-old male customer had been banned from the salon, the Yomiuri newspaper reported. He told the police that he was having trouble with the 21-year-old salon worker and had prepared knives to kill her, it said. A spokesman for Tokyo metropolitan police department confirmed the arrest but declined to give details of the attack. The worker was alive but unconscious after the attack at her home, the Yomiuri said. The grandmother was stabbed when she answered the front door.

The Asahi says (Japanese) that the salon was somewhere in Chiyoda ward. 2chers think it was one in Akihabara which has featured on FG before. The man got in to the house to attack the women because the door was unlocked.

The man went every weekend to that parlour and ended up spending around 3-400,000 yen a month.

Is 'ear-cleaning salon' just a euphemism like 'pink salon' or 'fashion health'? How do you spend that much, even going every weekend?

I don't think that place offers any "special" services but there is a three hour course with massage. He apparently spent several hours there in one go but it's still difficult to see how he could have dropped as much as 400,000 yen in a month. Once a week at around 20,000 yen for three hours would mean an outlay of 100,000 or so if you include tax and tips. Maybe he took to stuffing natto and shichimi in his lugholes to give them more to do.

The salon did realize that there was something creepy about his visits because they banned him but it does raise the question of how often they let him visit and how much they allowed him to spend before they imposed the ban. There's no suggestion, however, that the girl who was stabbed was at fault in any way.

ZakZak says (Japanese) he may have been going virtually every day in which case it's not so hard to see how he might have racked up 3-400,000 yen a month. One sex industry journalist claims that men who aren't comfortable in a hostess club may have sought female company at these kinds of places even though they aren't selling sex. The article refers to a small group of customers who perhaps can't tell the difference.

ZakZak also says (Japanese) that the girl earned 680,000 yen a month at the salon and was the customer's "number one" choice. Her hourly pay was 2,500 yen an hour and she would work 10 hour shifts, six days a week. On top of that, she received a bonus every time a customer asked specifically for her.

It has just been reported that the girl has also died. She never regained consciousness.

The suspect is taken in custody. Is that why Takechan hasn't been online for a few days now?

The house where the attack took place was destroyed this morning in a fire which broke out in Shimbashi. (Source)

I wonder if the fire was sparked off by a huge build-up of flammable ear wax?
