Hello Work's Policy on Discrimination: Zero-F*ckin'-Tolerance!

Postby Catoneinutica » Wed Jan 27, 2010 11:49 am

...or so my wife tells me. I'm looking for a staffer and have a pretty good idea of that subspecies of Tansoku Tribe who will fill the bill: an o-ne-san or o-baa-chan. But apparently I'm not allowed to so specify my Hello Work listing, so I'm getting resumes from young women and guys (I'll forward the ones from the young ladies to you, greji; Take, would you like to take a look at the fellas?). I really feel sorry for these people wasting their time. Sigh. That's all.

There must be some website doing job listings for the over 55 set...lots are losing their jobs through downsizings and restructurings and "voluntary" early retirements...

Post what shitz? Resumes from guys in their forties who graduated from well-regarded universities, whose careers "peaked" in the 90s, and who are now working as janitors? Believe me, it's pretty depressing.

Work: In a land of lifetime job security, being laid off is particularly devastating. Middle-aged men suffer most.
January 02, 1994|DAVID HOLLEY, TIMES STAFF WRITER
(Page 2 of 4)

"The chances are so small for an old man like me," lamented Hashimoto, who is 56. "It's almost 100% certain that I cannot find a job at my old salary. . . . Some nights I cannot sleep at all. I think at night: 'If I don't get a job for another month, or another two months, there's no hope. What shall I do?' "

Pain, anger and a sense of betrayal are common among job seekers at the Tokyo Human Resources Center, a clearinghouse for unemployed middle managers seeking new positions. Middle-aged people who were hired into companies under the lifetime employment system have never changed jobs, said Seiji Takahashi, director of the center. "They think switching jobs is a crime."

Probably. A gerbil's just a fat rat with a bobbed tail and buck teeth, right?

Given that the rest of the developed western world is now on a course to follow japan's route down the plughole, i see this as an ideal time to start practicing with the mop and bucket.

My grandma told me it was spelled "pfeltch", but she was quite all there at the time.

It case grandma forgot the real "original" gerbil pfeltch, that propelled the game to worldwide fame.....

I remember back in the mid 90's when I was still working at an English school and we went through one of these agencies looking for a new secretary and we got sent a bunch of Brylcreamed guys in their 50's who spoke no English. They all had the eyes of dogs in the animal shelter that knew they were about to be euthanasiaed. I assume that this agencies figure that they might have more luck fobbing off skillless salarymen on foreigners. I really wanted to have sympathy for these tools but they had zero job skills.

I suppose getting rejected by a foreigner is about the last step one takes before buying a charcoal burner and heading up the slopes of Mt. Fuji. Call it the Japanese version of 'A Rake's Progress'.
