Looks nice.. But not sure how practical.. Looks like a jumbo iPhone, but without the phone function. I like the keyboard.. But if I had an iPhone, I'm not sure I'd be persuaded with the iPad. The iPhone does all this, and fits in my pocket.

* edit: upon further review.. I want one... But I don't know why.. :)

I Love the iPad
http://www.slate.com/id/2242786/pagenum/all/#p2
.. But then you see it. And then I got to touch it. In an instant, my skepticism of the cheesy, feminine-hygiene-product-inspired name fizzled. For more than a year, I've been looking for the perfect second computer. I wanted a flat, portable, easy-to-use machine that I could use for e-mail and reading the Web. The iPad is that device. Jobs described it as the perfect hybrid of a laptop and a phone, and I agree. Everything about it—its size, shape, weight, and fantastically intuitive user interface—feels just right.

First, the features: It's an aluminum-and-glass touch-screen machine that's about the size of a Kindle. The iPad is extremely thin, and it weighs just a pound and a half. It runs on a proprietary Apple microprocessor, can hold 16 to 64 GB of data (depending on which model you get), and its battery (allegedly) lasts up to 10 hours. The device goes on sale in two months. (Apple didn't say the exact date.) Prices range from $499 (16 GB, Wi-Fi only) up to $829 (64 GB and a 3G wireless modem). A cellular data plan through AT&T costs $15 a month for up to 250 MB of bandwidth and $30 a month for unlimited data. There's no contract—you can cancel your data plan at any time without any fee. (When I asked an Apple rep whether iPhone owners could use the same plan for both devices, he didn't know the answer.)..

I was trying so hard not to be an Apple FanGirl... but reviewing the iPad I think that we will be getting one as soon as it is on sale.

It would work so well in our house.. We only have one computer at home but that is totally set up for WiFi etc and only one TV in the living room. So we can use the iPad for watching movies in bed or on a plane, SKYPE for phone, hook up to stereo for music, reading newspapers, digital photoframe when not in use as a computer.

Not sure on the whole iBook thing as I really like the touch, feel and smell of books - great for travelling though.

For my work it is going to be great.

You're a newly wed and watching movies in bed?

Oh, where's Charles when we need him. He certainly wouldn't let this get by without an appropriate comment....

Dood, I did in 99 (stupidly before a profit warning). I don't even know how high they soared... bu i'm ready to bet... a lot...

As for the Appul Tablut' I need something simple to check me mail, read me RSS feed. And write vindicative post on me enemies Facebook pages. Seems to fit the bill. Unfortunately... like for my prehistomac to weak for flash games... no farmville on this one either. Moar trublesumly... no you tube pr0n...

Now, for a full shmorgasmborg. I'd need Google Sketchup running on it. Because one strange thing I do all the time now is to use my Sony eBook reader as a sketchpad for basic design/concept/ideas. But the drawing software is worse than MacPaint on a Mac 128k. You have just pen and a semy random action eraser. No lasso, undo, buckit, brush, line, circle or even text tool. In a way. It's wonderful, the software don't get in the way of creation. But it's kinda hardcore oldschool...

They should have put a cam. with direct picture editing it would have been the ultimate tool for tinkerer. Take a picture of the engine bay, anotate, screw up... call JAF and show them how it was supposed to be before while crying like a lost kitten... (yup... 200lbs but if I do my sad baby face my mechanic can't refuse me anything...)

2 month to wait for the 1.0 version...

Nahhh... that's nuthing yet... when it reach the point where you need cats to have someone to blame for the stinky farts then you know it's close to the end.

BTW I don't know if it's a French think or whut but most of us (cheeze-eating-surrender-monkeys) with japanese other halfes switch quite fast to separated bedrooms...

I'm not certain whether this is something I'd like. I don't use a Mac, iPod, iTouch or iPhone which probably doesn't make me an obvious consumer but I can see some merit in the idea and it might suit my parents to have one around the house. That price looks very rich right now. As it currently stands, it doesn't make me want to swap my laptop and having both would be unwieldy for travelling. Even Apple fans among my friends have been cautious about buying first generation products from the firm these days so I'd probably wait for it to bed in anyway. That's a big screen to keep clean and intact.

iPad? I bet they change the name before they ship it.

How do you read the text on the back of the page you just flipped over?

As someone who is looking to eventually purchase a tablet, I won't even get into all the fail offered by this atrocity. Seriously, I'm usually all for bashing Apple when it suits me, but I'm going to bite my tongue just out of plain sympathy for the folks delusional enough to think this is a good product. Enjoy your iPhone XL (sans camera).

You think this is bad.. Try living in Cupertino where probably 45% of the office space is taken by Apple and about 60% of the people around here have that gay ass apple sticker plastered on their cars like I should bow down to them because they work for the world's greatest mind (Jobs)....

Frantic Steve Jobs Stays Up All Night Designing Apple Tablet

Postby FG Lurker » Fri Jan 29, 2010 4:47 pm

Frantic Steve Jobs Stays Up All Night Designing Apple Tablet
The Onion, January 27, 2010
CUPERTINO, CA--Claiming that he completely forgot about the much-hyped electronic device until the last minute, a frantic Steve Jobs reportedly stayed up all night Tuesday in a desperate effort to design Apple's new tablet computer. "Come on, Steve, just think--think, dammit--you're running out of time," the exhausted CEO said as he glued nine separate iPhones to the back of a plastic cafeteria tray. "Okay, yeah, this will work. This will definitely work. Just need to write 'tablet' on this little strip of masking tape here and I'm golden.

Now that the internet is a 'lifestyle' or whatever, this is obviously how things will progress. One more neat marketing ploy after another to convince us that our relationship with electronics should be realized solely through a simple, intuitive, one-size-fits-all fixed proprietary package.

Still, it can't mix drinks, cook food, or polish my knob while I wait.

WTF - this is just an iTouch for the seeing impaired - and not even a good one at that. No thanks for me. My hackintosh is much more useful under all conditions - and it has embedded HSPDA. What the hell was Apple thinking? (Or not)
