10 years seems kind of harsh when you consider that murderers don't seem to get much more sometimes.

Sometime back officials were putting drugs into people's bags to see if they could find them later. It's probably not related to this case but it makes you think about who might have access to luggage.

If he wanted to get off, this dude should have claimed he'd fallen in love with a Nigerian who'd put the drugs in his suitcase without his knowledge....seems to work for Japanese women.

I just hope this case was decided on some kind of evidence (say, the suspect's fingerprints all over the pot, or that the bag wasn't diverted to some waiting pickup dude and the suspect picked it up himself, but even that is pretty weak) rather than just the word of the J customs agents VS the word of the gaijin, "whose character Japanese people can't understand, and thus I the Japanese judge am better qualified than you the Japanese lay judge, to determine that they deserve a penalty worse than many murderers get, because he's obviously guilty and unrepentant, since all gaijin are lying scum, because they are evil, long live the Emperor, BANZAI!!!!!"

Especially in these days when we're basically not allowed to lock our luggage for "security" reasons, the nightmare scenario of some baggage worker using you as a drug mule is even more likely.

Add in the fucked J "justice" system, where if you plead "not guilty" you are seen as "unrepentant" and thus deserve a stricter penalty than people who "confess".

Those "training" cases only require a small amount of dope to train the dogs. This dud had almost seven and a half pounds that apparently appeared by spontaneous regeneration. No wonder they had difficulty believing him. He could of a least tried the tried and tested "someone gave their bag to me, to carry to Japan for them" excuse. Those people seem to fair a bit better if they do get sentenced. But this was el dudo's own bag with his funky skivvies and all. Someone planted Dope A into Bag B is indeed a lame excuse.
